Chantal: Ship Deviations
The threat of Hurricane Chantal has caused several cruise lines to alter their itineraries this week. Carnival Celebration dropped Cozumel and Calica; instead, the ship was in port at Veracruz Monday and will spend Tuesday and Wednesday at Sea, arriving back at Galveston on Thursday. Carnival cancelled Sensation's visit to Grand Cayman and calling in Key West today. Sensation will visit Cozumel on Wednesday and New Orleans on Friday. Celebrity’s Century has altered its one-week Western Caribbean itinerrary, sailing on an Eastern route instead to San Juan, St. Thomas, St. Maarten and Nassau.
Makes sense. I've heard from a couple people who feel so sorry for people cruising the Western Caribbean right now. People panic too much when they hear there's a storm. Do they really think the cruise lines will put their multi-million dollar ships at risk? Not to mention the passengers! Some people just don't get it, I guess.
We sailed on the Sea Princess over Thanksgiving during a hurricane a couple of years ago. We sailed west and the storm was east. Basically all the itiniaries that were going east went west or they tried to go east with some modification.
