Yes Hawaii is off because of the Chapter 11 of the United States Lines, but I just found out it would have been cancelled anyway by my boss. They need me to run everything and can't afford to have me gone from the office. They were going to cancel my vacation and pay all my non refundable costs, last week showed them how much I do and me being gone left a big hole. Bankruptcy of the cruise line was good for my boss as I now have to pursue refunds through my insurance and credit card.
At leastI have a job and am in no danger of being laid off because I'm the only one that can do a lot of things in the office but now I can't get any time off! Catch 22
I am pushing for time off in early Feb for a Caribbean cruise, at least I should be in a strong position when arguing that I'm entitled to my time off by then.
Watch for a package to arrive probably tommorrow in Texas.
Doug, sorry to hear that your Hawaii cruise has been cancelled. Sure hope you can get time off for the Caribbean one that would be a nice rest in February. Also glad to read that your job is secure, I know that if I get laid off the company will close, being the controller I would be the last one out the door besides the owner. Sure hope it all works out for you that you can go in February.
It's hard to feel safe these days but I'm confident I'd be that last one standing in our company. A year ago were were doing about $65 million in sales and had about 15-16 people in Operations and Finance. Right now it's me and my boss, who is the VP Finance left, and he only works 3 days a week! I do absolutely everything else that is not sales or tech related.
Sorry RayB-- you dont know Doug !!!!!!! Some things and people can never be replaced.
Doug maybe you should just take the time off -- or just threaten too-- maybe they will reinburse you for you cruise insurance etc. Got an e-mail from Dall-- Hawaii really needs tourists-- maybe you can find a smaller ship-- one with a paddle and sail around the islands yourself--lol
Cheers
