Default Here Comes the STAR!

From NCL Web Site:
"MIAMI, November 9, 2001 - The public will have the rare and fun opportunity on Saturday, November 17 to get an insider's view of an historic nautical event during a live webcast of Norwegian Cruise Lines' (NCL) groundbreaking dual christening ceremony for its newest ships: Norwegian Sun and Norwegian Star.
Those who log onto NCL's website, www.ncl.com beginning at 10 a.m. EST can see two of America's brightest new stars team to christen the world's brightest new ships, positioned bow to bow, from Miami, Fla.

Brooke Burke, model and popular host of E! Entertainment Television's "Wild On", and Miss America 2001 Angela Perez Baraquio will act as the godmothers of NCL's first ships purpose-built for the groundbreaking Freestyle Cruising concept. The colorful ceremony will be the first simultaneous christening on record of two commercial passenger vessels.

Web users will need to have access to the latest version of RealPlayer on their computer in order to link to the ceremony. RealPlayer may be downloaded free in advance through RealNetworks at www.real.com/player.

A Morning of Fun and Festivities
Among the fun and festivities at the ceremony will be flag dancers, a high-energy, 150-piece local high school marching band that will split into two "dueling" groups playing songs with sun and star themes, Mylar streamers shooting from the sea to the sky, and cliff dancers who will dance on the bows of the ships.

Web users will also, of course, have the opportunity to watch two of America's most heavenly stars shine as they simultaneously christen each ship with bottles of Nicolas Feuillatte champagne.

Brooke Burke is the well-traveled celebrity host of "Wild On" which takes her to such exotic, adventuresome, and far-flung places as Spain, the Mayan Riviera, Belize and Aruba. Known for her stunning beauty and bubbly personality, Burke is a major reason why "Wild On" is one of cable television's hottest shows. She has also appeared on national television commercials and recently hosted NCL's Freestyle Cruising video as well as other upcoming NCL promotional activities.

Miss America 2001 Angela Perez Baraquio is a native of Honolulu, Hawaii, which will be the year-round homeport for Norwegian Star. A graduate of the University of Hawaii - Manoa, she adopted a platform stressing character in the classroom and traveled approximately 20,000 miles a month during her reign urging students, educators, parents and communities at large to make character education a part of their daily lives."

This story ran in the Nov 14 edition of CND:
"Norwegian Cruise Line's brand new Norwegian Star glided into the Port of Miami Wednesday morning with a surprise for the helicopters circling overhead. As you many readers know, Miami tv stations have helicopters out trolling for news. (Remember the pictures from the choppers a few years ago that played over and over and over of a famous cruise ship on fire?) Imagine their surprise when they focused on the new ship and saw the crew on deck in Aloha shirts having spelled out (a la high school marching band method) "ALOHA."
It was NCL's way of making sure everyone knows their great big new ship will be taking up residence in Hawaii for 7-day cruises beginning next month.
The crew didn't stay on deck long. They had to get busy because Wednesday night, NCL is hosting 1800 travel agents on board Norwegian Star. Then Thursday and Friday nights the ship will be sailing two one-night preview cruises sold to the public. After her naming ceremony on Saturday she will sail on a two-night preview cruise for the trade and media before her inaugural cruise on Monday.
Speaking of that naming ceremony, which will be held in tandem with the one for Norwegian Star, CND has learned that NCL commissioned noted artist Romero Britto to paint pictures of each ship in his distinctive style to be used as the godmothers' gifts to NCL. (You didn't think the godmothers really paid for those gifts themselves, did you?) The paintings will be on display on the ships."

Just got off pier-side overnight (14th/15th)on the Star... and a Star she is. Forget any pre-set notions you may have had about NCL! This first purpose built ship for Free Style cruising is a winner in all respects. Will post more details shortly.

P.S. They've loaded some slot machines and tables for the two one-night special sailings... created a temporary casino on board!
