Default Alumni Cruise Prices

I keep receiving brochures in the mail about various alumni trips including cruises, and it appears that everyone who attended my university (Penn State) must be very wealthy. I think that I could book most of the same trips through a good travel agent for about half the price. While it might be pleasant to be on a cruise with other people who attended the same school, all of them would be strangers and some would be much younger or a even a bit older. I'll take the cheaper cruise anytime!

Paul, it's not just PSU. I get the same outrageously priced trip brochures from the Texas Exes. I could cruise at least twice in a nice balcony cabin or mini-suite for what they charge for a similar stateroom. I do have 'orange blood,' but that's crazy. I agree with you in full, Mr. Lariat. :o)

To cruise with alumni, you've got to be nuts,
To pay for two palaces and get only huts.
We'll cruise with my friends, leave the exes ashore,
And we'll cruise twice as often, for we won't be so pore.

Same thing in Canada... the pricing for University of Victoria alumni cruises (the latest is a 34-day, South Pacific on the Crown Odyssey) is more than twice what I could book it for myself.

My husband's company doesn't look for the best buys either. They just don't have the time to do it and go with the agent they've used forever. Doesn't make good business sense in my book.
