Some years ago (like twenty-plus) we (that would be me and husband #1) had a Christmas party to help decorate our tree because we were w-a-y poor and it was a choice between (cheap) champagne and Christmas ornaments. We went for the champagne.
Here's the first ornament we received. He always has a place of honor on our tree.
It came from a wonderful couple named Frances and Harris Beare. Harris was an importer, Frances played one mean game of bridge.
Frances suffered from mouth cancer. But it certainly didn't impact her bridge game. I miss her so much. She was a funny and elegant lady who somehow figured out that I could play the game even though I was 20 or so years younger than the "regulars" and it was fun for her to play with my baby while she was "dummy".
So, in honor of those two people whom I loved so well and who were such an important part of my life during the salad days ...
