Default RCCL Soda Policy - Official word from RCCL

Asked a question on RCCL's website and received this email back:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thank you for your inquiry. We apologize for the delay.

Effective April 4, 2002 Royal Caribbean will begin charging for fountain
sodas in all of the food and beverage outlets including the dining room.

April 4, 2002 for all vessels with the exception of:

Grandeur of the Seas - 5/19/02
Radiance of the Seas - 5/10/02
Vision of the Seas - 6/2/02

Soda Fountain packages are available fleet wide for adults and children.

Thank you for choosing Royal Caribbean International,

Christy,
Vacation Planner Representative.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So it is not a rumor anymore and sorry April - the exceptions doesn't include our sailing of the Radiance.

Guess they join the ranks of all the other lines right now.

Theresa

Hey Theresa,
I kind of thought it was not a rumor like we all hoped, but glad you posted the "official" notice.

I don't consume a lot of soda, so it really won't matter much to me, and thank goodness for the soda cards, they are really worth it now if you are cruising with a family with kids :-)

Thanks for checking Theresa. Much better than conjecture.

Now why they'd leave three particular sailings of certain ships out of the change is rather curious.
With the reduction in the price of their soda cards, I really don't think this whole change is all that crucial. I got a soda card on Golden Princess over New Year's, and saved a pile of money.

When I sailed in December - the soda card was $33 for adults.

My TA had sent me the attached jpeg which states that for a limited time only - it will be $19.95 for a 7 day cruise.

They probably reduced the price at the same time as taking it away from the dining room. I can live with $19.95. Actually since they are a "coke place" - I drink very little pop on the ship.
