Default whale watching?

Does it matter what time you schedule whale watching?

Is there a specific time that is better then others? My choices are lunch time until dinner time.

Thanks.

We are in the port between 12 pm and 11 pm.

My choices are:

12:30 pm

2:45 pm

4:45 pm

Which would you pick?

Theresa

OK - I choose the 4:45 pm because we want to do the Mendenhall glacier when we dock which is at noon.

Please tell me that I will see whales at this time. I signed up for whales and wildlife tour. verses just the whale tour.

Kim - you are right!

Now I am just looking for verification that I did the right thing ;-).

Also, signed up for rail pass in Skagway at 8:20 in the morning. Was this the right time to go? Any pros and cons?

Theresa.. think with whale watching excursions you've just got to be lucky, though the tour operators do know the areas they most often frequent.
We did the whale and wildlife tour out of Sitka once, saw a couple of whales and lots of sea otters.
On our last Alaska trip we got very lucky. Saw more whales from the ship, than many saw on any of their tours.

Theresa- I think you will be good with the whale watching time you have selected. As for the time for the train in Skagway - the morning runs sometimes are done in fog, so sometimes the views are not the greatest...but the higher you go, the better it should get - will have fingers and toes crossed for a nice clear day for you. BTW - the afternoon runs are sometimes more prone to rain, so I think it is 6 of one, half a dozen of the other.
