Default RCCL Casual vs RCCL Smart Casual?

Just reading my docs for Radiance/Alaska -

They say for 7 night cruise we will have 2 formal, 1 smart casual and 4 casual.

What is the difference between smart casual and casual?

Thanks!

Hi Theresa,

Smart casual is a term that should be changed to a different term.
It should read semi formal, men in coats and ties (not dark suits or tux).
The ladies to dress in that same manner. Nice pants suit or (your choice).

Casual, is slacks and shirt for men, no shorts and ladies the same in that manner.

Hope that helps.

I don't like the term at all. It is really too vague. RCI really wants men to wear coats and ties but doesn't clearly spell this out as a requirement. On our last cruise on Radiance, many of the men started wearing nice sports shirts (not t shirts) with collars and dress slacks on smart casual nights. I have decided that in the future that this is what I will do. It is just too much trouble to carry a suit and a bulky sports coat in my luggage. I think that there should be just two specifications of dress, formal and casual with the exlination that casusl DOES NOT include T shirts and shorts.

I was amazed to see that in the summer, most people seemed to look the same as on casual night (we definitely felt overdressed and only saw maybe a dozen men in jackets), but when we cruised over New Year's, people were dressed semi-formal. (New Year's Eve was formal)........maybe just matters at what time of year it is .
