Default OT.......Needless Tragedy here in WV

We woke up this morning, and listened to the morning news on the radio, to find out one of my daughter,s friends from school, had drowned in the Shenandoah river, yesterday afternoon.

He was a wondeful, young, vibrant 15 year old with his whole life ahead of him. Just starting to drive, and full of life. He was hanging out with some friends, and they decided to swim to the eastern shore of the river. Where they were swimming, was no more than 6 feet, but he got caught in a swift top current, and was pulled along with it. With no life jacket on, he only made it 30 feet before he went under. He had soooo much of his life ahead of him. I'll remember him forever. I'm just sick about this.

PLEASE be safe out there this summer everyone. This is just heartbreaking for us!

Take Care!
Jaime

It is so tragic...we have the same thing happen every year on the Rappahannock in Fredericksburg. The river looks so peaceful but is so deceptive! We had our first drowning of the season last week....a 22 year old. Usually average 3 or 4 a season, just in our small town.

Jaime,
That is SUCH a heartbreaker. So sad when it happens when kids are doing what kids do.

Very sad Jaime.
There was an out of control driver who ran down several children and two died. They were friends of my 13 year old niece. They were all outside waiting to be picked up and my niece was not there yet when it happened. She has had a terrible blow to deal with.
She is doing much better now, but what an awful thing to have happen.
The woman had previous records for driving including DUI.

My heart goes out to your daughter. The last week of school 3 of my daughters friends were hit by a repeat DUI offender. I was there to pick up my daughter right after getting off work., 2 teachers were doing CPR on 2 of the students the 3rd was breathing. About 60 other childern witnessed the accident. Being in Law Enforcement I helped other officers, and looking for my own daughter. 2 of the boys died within 3 days of the accident, the other boy had a multiple fractures to both legs and one arm, with facial injuries, he is going to make it. My daughter was mad with me and asked me why I let bad people go. Its been 2 weeks and she is now talking to me again and sleeping. The lady that hit the children was arrested a week later, after the furnerals.
It's very hard to explain the death of 2 of her friends, and aslo explain the law and how it works to a 12 year old. It isn't over until the court makes it's dicision and then you get to explain it all over again. Try explaining it to a woman whom has just moved here from Nigeria 6 months ago after her husband was murdered there, and she now has lost a son to a 3 time DUI offender.
Please take away the keys. You don't want to ever sit down and tell this to anyone.

Look out for each other.

Another awful tragic story. Our thoughts and prayers for those boys families and for Jessie and the other children that lost these friends too. It is so hard to understand why repeat offenders can keep getting back on the road. VA is one of the .08 states. You would think that after the first time they would get the hint, but then it shouldn't even take that....we all know and heard how wrong it is to drink and drive....these folks just think they wont get caught. What a horrible way to start the summer.
