The last couple of years most of the cruise lines seem to be smoothing the embarkation process, but.... WHO do you think has the best embarkation process?
In my experiences...
#1 was Seabourn. They had white gloved staff by the check in desks in the terminal to take the carry ons and show us to our cabin.
#2 Of the mass market lines... it has to be Princess, where the check in desks are set up by deck... and improved even further recently if you complete your registration process online.
#3 Celebrity, with their new system of allowing guests to check in and board early, even though cabins may not yet be ready. They allow you to board and wait on board in public areas
On Princess - we boarded at 11:15 and all the rooms were ready! I think it took all of 3 minutes from the time we walked in to the time we were done at the counter. Took a few more minutes to send our stuff through the security but not a big deal.
On Celebrity - we boarded at 10:30 and the rooms were not ready yet but we could stay in public areas.
RCCL - we checked in (fairly smoothly) and had to wait another 40 minutes before they let us on the ship.
The worst . . . .Carnival in San Juan. Hopefully it has improved since a couple of years ago.
I would also have to say Princess, last cruise we were totally checked in, in less than 5 minutes. Of course we were one of the last to board and there was literally no one in the terminal checking in, except us :-)
I think it also helped to have all the information done on-line weeks before the cruise and get the speedy embarkment, and also having passports makes boarding a breeze!

Re: POLL.. WHO HAS THE BEST EMBARKATION?
Celebrity did a fantastic job in Honolulu....we walked right up to a table, checked in and were in our cabin in less than 10minutes......best ever experience. Disembarkation in Vancouver was just as fast.........we were told that the Port Authority dictated just how this was going to be carried out and it went like clockwork.......NO COMPLAINTS on either end!
Have to agree with Mgram, Honolulu was painless. Walked in, checked in and was in our cabin in about 15 minutes. And Vancouver wins for debarkation. Wonder if it is the port or the cruiseline. If the latter than Celebrity wins.
Before Honolulu, I would rank Princess and RCI about the same but no one can top how fast Celebrity was in Honolulu, that was painless. I was amazed to be onboard in 5 minutes and I wasn't a past passenger.
NCL was never that organized and the worse I encountered was for Costa Atlantica. However, the good thing was there were plenty of chairs to sit in while you were waiting and wait I did. Well over an hour, it was painfully slow and you still had to get in line after you sat and waited. Celebrity gets my vote. Sue
