Default POLL-# of FORMAL NIGHTS u'd like

Some folks detest formal nights. Some folks think they add to the ambience on the ship.
Even as I take more and more cruises, I'm still in the "some formal" nights corner on this one. I do believe it makes at least a couple of nights "special" on the ships, and certainly not what you'd find at most land based resorts.

I do think Princess takes a good lead in how they handle formal nights now. On a 7 day cruise.. 2 Formal & the rest casual. I LIKE IT.

What would you're ideal #of formal night be, ZERO ? to All?

7 day cruise - 2 formal - 1 semi formal - the rest casual.
10 day cruise - 2 formal - 2 semi formal - the rest casual.
14 day cruise - 3 formal - 2 semi formal - the rest casual.

I love dressing up and we ladies don't get to see our guys all decked out very often!
I like the idea of being able to go pick out a special dress (or two or three) to wear just for cruises. It's the one time, I feel pretty, so it is special to me.

If people were allowed in the dining rooms in shorts/ bathing suits, etc, I don't think it would be the same.

On 7 nite cruises, 2 formal with the rest informal. On 10 to 14 day cruises, 3 formal with the rest informal. No confusing "smart casual" or "dressy casual" ever! Also, no shorts in the dining room for dinner ever.

I like the formal nights. It is nice to have everyone really decked out. 2 for a 7 night, 3 for a 10 night etc.

However I do not like semi-formal very much. I either like getting very dressed up, or in a more relaxed clothing (slacks and shirt as opposed to coat and tie) It seems on semi-formal some people are wearing coat and tie and others are not, it just is not nearly as nice.

I still love to dress up .... but that doesn't mean that I don't mentally cringe when I have to think about packing the necessary outfits....it is such a waste of good space for other clothes....and easier to pack.

I think 1 for every 7 days is enough.....skip the informal and make the rest casual.

I have to agree with Mgram on this (though I too enjoy dressing 2x on a 7 nighter), but with the Supper Clubs on most ships now I could do my "dressing up" for the second time when using that venue. And I prefer causal for all other nights....it can get so confusing on what one interprets as smart casual, informal and semi-formal!

We like 7 day cruises... 2 formal is great. we dress nice for dinner every night either way. If I wanted to go informal I would go camping. just my 2 cents.... Char

In January Princess had two formal nights for a 7 day. And in February Princess had only 3 formal for a 21day. That suited me just fine !!

And no semi formal.

So, I guess to answer the question :-)) One formal night per week.

I like formal nights. Queeg looks terrific as a $5 James Bond. And there's something about seeing the folks you were out sweating with all day dressed up.

I also like informal nights. I can see Queeg in a golf shirt and a pair of khakis at dinner every night at home. I redefine "casual" with my summer and winter work uniforms.

My choice would be casual first and last nights only. I can also wish for the keys to Ft. Knox.

My choice would be formal every night! Or one dining room that is open seating formal attire required.

Thomas

I would go with the one formal and the rest casual on a 7 night cruise.

No matter WHAT the length of cruise, I think one formal night is enough. Make the rest casual, shorts prohibited for both men and women.

Kuki,
I agree with Mike M. I love watching the joy my wife gets shopping for clothes, it's part of the hipe. We like formal nights. I would say 3 to 4 on 7 to 10 day cruises. I admit that some ships are more party/causual thats ok, but when we cruise we really like dressing to the 9's. (my wife can dress to kill! and I love it) This is one reason we try to choose cruises that are at sea a lot.

I'd go along with a 7 day cruise, 2 formal nights and the rest casual! Works best for me, easier on the packing etc.

I agree with Pam on this one. Casual first and last nights; at least 2 formal per 7. I like to wear a sports coat on the rest.

On a 7 day, I agree, 2 formal the rest casual. The one semi is a waste of packing space.

I agree with what has been said -no shorts in the dining room - 2 formal on 7 night cruises and the rest casual. 10 night can either go for 3 formal (repeat if you want) or stay with 2.

Roger and I also love dressing up at sea, traditionalists at heart, so on a 7-day cruise, 2 formal nights and the rest casual (no shorts or shirts without collars). Prefer not having to pack a jacket and suit/tux. My dresses always take priority!

Pamda, I love the "$5 James Bond" statement! I'm going to quote you often!
