Poll: Cruise Director's Staff Activities
Just wondering how many of us ever participate in any/all of those zany cruise director activities. You know, the "shufflegolf," beanbag toss, trivia, putting contests, sit to be fit, etc. On our first 11-day cruise, we actually did a lot of those things, including the belly flop contest (well, I did, anyway). Since that cruise in '98, we haven't participated in any such festivities except for one trivia contest. Just wondered about the rest of you.

Re: Poll: Cruise Director's Staff Activities
Well, I do like to participate in the Trivia contests (ok sue me, I really am good at trivia) - but I love to watch the Newlywed/Not-so-Newlywed Game on the closed circuit tv - but it all depends on the participants (RayB and Helen are you listening? lol)

Re: Poll: Cruise Director's Staff Activities
The only thing I like to do is go to the horse races. And on our last trip there wasn't one single race in the whole 21 days. About 3/4 of the way through the cruise I asked the cruise director about the races and his answer was...............Does this look like a gambling crowd to you ?? He said it with a VBG. Will say the Casino was always empty. Well, not quite.........I was there !!! |
Re: Poll: Cruise Director's Staff Activities
We are big into trivia, but that's about it. On long cruises if there are ACBL-sanctioned games, we play duplicate bridge until the malcontents accuse us of cheating. No ACBL games, we play pick-up bridge for reasonably high stakes.
I have never attended a napkin-folding demonstration. |
Re: Poll: Cruise Director's Staff Activities
Well.. it depends. Horce races are always fun, if there's an owner's auction ... Novelquest on RCI is always a hoot (especially when you know the game, but instigate unsuspecting teammates)... on Celeb Millennium they had passenger vs cruise staff pool volleyball that was fun. Heck, once in my "storied" past I even competed in a sexy legs contest poolside.
I always thought I'd be great at the Newlywed/Not so.. game, but so far haven't made it up on stage (likely contributing to me still being married) Much of the time we're busy with stuff we cook up ourselves <G> |
Re: Poll: Cruise Director's Staff Activities
We have participated in shipboard activities...especially on our first couple of cruises but now it is down to an occasional game of bingo, horseracing or trivia. On our last cruise we only played one game of bingo.

Re: Poll: Cruise Director's Staff Activities
Bingo's big with wife. Won $250.00 last cruise. We also played the horse race game. I think I would rather sit in the sun or at the black jack table. Bob

Re: Poll: Cruise Director's Staff Activities
Did the trivia once and scavenger hunt once.
Normally don't do any activities. I love trivia but John doesn't care for it so I get my trivia fix at home watching Jeopardy. :O) |
Re: Poll: Cruise Director's Staff Activities
We are 'regulars' at trivia, and I occasionally enter golf chipping (or putting) and basketball free-throw contests.

Re: Poll: Cruise Director's Staff Activities
We always, always, always play find the hidden dime on the other person's body game !!! Ooops...........sorry, that's not a cruise director's game. That's a personal cabin game.

Re: Poll: Cruise Director's Staff Activities
Now that we plan our cruising with friends there never seems to be enough time or the desire to attend the planned functions. We did attend the trivia game on our 10-day back in February and on the Summit we did the horse racing. Mgram I was wondering the same thing as you, were did the dollars go for the horse that did place. The odd events that were planned were more enjoyable. I really felt that Celebrity could have done a better job of having something’s planned for the five days at sea.

Re: Poll: Cruise Director's Staff Activities
Shucks, I am usually game for any and all activities. That is part of the fun, joining in and participating, especially the team games where you meet many new and sometimes longtime friends!

Re: Poll: Cruise Director's Staff Activities
Hey, some of those activities are what cruising is all about, right? I do enjoy the horse racing, have done trivia, bingo, watched the goofy pool games, they always get a good laugh! I also love going and watching the cruise version of the "newlywed game", some have been way toooo funny!

Re: Poll: Cruise Director's Staff Activities
Mort and I both like playing trivia and bingo. I also enjoy participating in the line dances, and sometimes get Mort to join me in taking ballroom dance lessons (which he hates). I also love going to the spa for massages. He likes the slot machines. It is also fun to just watch some of the pool games, and the Newlywed Game is always good for laughs.

Re: Poll: Cruise Director's Staff Activities
Mgram and SeaFan.. I think the problem with the horsey "pool" arose because one group grabbed one horse and started decorating, then another group grabbed another and started decorating. After the one group of people decided the horses should be pooled, they didn't discuss it with those who were carting around the other horse. Just assumed.
Too bad actually, but the last time we had a group large enough to purchase two horses, we had a friendly rivalry that was fun. We had horse napping going on, with ransom notes sent etc. Both ways can be fun. |
Re: Poll: Cruise Director's Staff Activities
Don't do 'em! We used to watch more of the activities prior to discovering balcony cabins. Think it's great to have for those who enjoy them, but we prefer our quiet times and the wonder of being at sea.

Re: Poll: Cruise Director's Staff Activities
I've done the bean bag throwing and the golf putting, but my real love is trivia. On my 15 day cruise on the Crown Princess in April, I played at least twice a day ... and won 13 prizes. Great way to meet people, too.

Re: Poll: Cruise Director's Staff Activities
we participated in the newlywed came. Didn't win but came close. This is my husband's favorite gameshow and I just had to give him an opportunity to participate. They even gave us a tape. Couldn't show it to some relatives because of the answers. Go watch this game onboard. We were instant celebrities.
