I first started discussing cruise information on the original Cruise 2 Forum about four years ago. We had a really nice group of posters including many who are now Cruisemates. We even had our own imaginary cruise line with our ship "The Impossible Dream," and most of us were on the ship's staff. Then the trolls came and destroyed the whole thing. Thankfully Cruisemates keeps the bad children away, and , for that, I am most greatful. This is a great place to be!!

Re: Poll: What Was Your First Cruise Forum?
I also first started posting on the cruise2 bb - then I got invited to another bb when the trolls showed up at cruise2 - left there for the most part last year and have been here ever since.

My first "cruise" forum was at CC, where I first met the greatest bunch of cruisers and when Anne Campbell was in charge over there, then she started this site and have been here ever since. I still surf the others, but nothing quite compares to this site, its grown to be (I think) the best site to get any/all cruise information without all the nonsense kind of stuff that some of the others have.
I'm definetly here to stay, glad to see a lot of you also agree!
I was on Cruise2 and went to another board. I drastically reduced my amount of posts after March of last year and stopped all together recently. Too many "followers" and not enough "independants".
This board may not have as many posts but there are good people here and I can trust them.
This is home now and I am happy here.
I first found rec.travel.cruises newsgroup in early 1995..and Anne Campbell's Cruise Critic site on AOL around the same time. Back then they used to have an online chat 2 nights a week. Shortly after that they were expanding to nightly chats and I became an online chat host.
Then 2 1/2 years ago when CruiseMates was just "being born", Anne and Paul invited me to join the team! I couldn't have been more delighted!!! And to this day, I still feel the same way.
Because of CruiseMates I've had the opportunity to meet so many online friends I consider myself truly blessed (and a lucky dog<G>).
The Internet has grown and has many cruise related web sites... but IMHO none as thorough and comprehensive as CruiseMates. Use the search engine and you can find articles and information on almost any cruise ship or cruise related question you might come up with.
Use the message boards and you can get "first hand" experiences from fellow cruisers. And the Chit Chat folder.. where CruiseMates meet for coffee or drinks daily <G>
I sometimes wonder when a new person finds their way to CruiseMates if they are amazed at just how much information is available on the site.
I'm relatively new to cruise forums ... lurked for a bit until I found this outstanding site and now I post. Don't even check out the other ones anymore.

I'm not sure what the first board was, but can remember the John Davis board with CruiseAholic. Started on the boards back in about 96 or 97 then followed the same path as most of the others.
Sailing on the Millie in 2001 was actually the first time I met CA after talking for probably close to 5 years. Can now say I've sailed with many others from the boards and made some great friends.
