Default POLL- Prefer ships with Midnight Buffets, 24 HR restaurants,

Up until the last couple of years pretty near all ships featured Midnight Buffets, concluding with a GRAND buffet the last night. Recent changes have seen some ships eliminate the Midnight buffest all together in favor of a 24 hr restaurant. Others are having a couple of buffets, and having "bites" passed around in public rooms. So, today's question.....
Do you prefer the style of Midnight buffets every night? OR the 24HR restaurant? OR the occassional buffet during the cruise?

Personally I think the Princess innovation of a 24HR alternative restaurant is ideal.

Considering the amount of food that is available to todays cruisers I am in favor of eliminating the buffets all together. Yes it looks pretty and I am always amazed how they carve all this stuff but who eats it? I can't eat that late at night and I know a lot of other people have the same problem. 24 hr restaurants are much better. This way there might be less food wasted too.

I vote for 24-hr. restaurants also. I do not like the "gourmet bites" on the Celebrity ships. They are cold and dried up leftovers.

Given these three choices, I'd have to go with the 24-hour restaurant. I agree with both Cindy and Sue.

24 hr restaurants for sure. Got sick of only having pizza to eat at 3am when I leave the casino. I know I could have ordered room service, but they don't deliver to the lido deck where I like to sit and eat.

Kuki... your poll mirrors exactly the feed back the Cruise Lines get... it is interesting. For years, we heard the same comment over and over again... "...the midnight buffet? Oh, we only go to look. " Tons and tons of food was wasted, together with countless man hours of prep time. Good riddance, I'd say.

I recall one night on the Crown Princess, very late, after a particularly lengthy, exhausting but profitable session at the Roulette Table (with a few drinks along the way), we wound up at the all night Bistro... almost empty... and sat down to a freshly prepared Steak, French Fries and a beer! It was perfect given the circumstances.

Midnight buffet? In the middle of a winning streak in the casino? In the middle of a really great song in the lounge? In the middle of a laugh with friends? In the middle of a ? in the cabin? In the middle of....well you get the idea.

Totally agree with all the previous posters.

24 hour restaurant/buffet/pizza/dessert Something is the way to go.

Definitely the 24 hour restaurant. Have never eaten at a midnight buffet and only went to look once...on the first cruise....grandiose and unappealing.

For me personally, I prefer the 24 hour buffets, like Princess has going, you can then forget the midnight buffets, usually not hungry at that time and too tired to wait in line just to take a look?

Okay, I guess someone's got to be the odd man out...lol. I love the midnight buffets and hate seeing them go by the wayside. The "gormet bites" on Celebrity aren't my cup of tea. Sorry to break the 100% agreement here - guess I shouldn't have stopped in today.... I always show up 15-20 minutes late for the midnight buffet or the chocolate buffet and there's plenty of food left. It's nice to sample a few things but not to the point of explosion!!!

Most definitely the 24 hour restaurant. Plus, Princess sometimes puts on special buffets ... like desserts with all the fancy work. It's lovely except for the calories but who counts calories on a cruise! <G>

I love the Midnight Buffet--carvings and all. It is one of the traditions I miss. I understand the waste of food, the waste of labor, the waste of "waist," but it is traditional. I always had half a dinner and rarely dessert to "save" my appetite for midnite. We also had early seating for that reason.

So, on my last Princess cruise, I really did like the 24-hour buffet. My final thought--24-hour buffet with one Buffet Magnifique (for ol' times' sake!).

Radiance did have a SeaView Cafe that was open from 9 pm to 2 am which was very nice.

Palm... many lines are doing exactly what you suggest.... one special midnight buffet. They did it on the Grandeur when I sailed in March/April. I must say though, they had many more visitors holding cameras than holding plates.

24 hour restaurants sound good to me! The older I get the less I am to eat after dinner anymore. Besides the dinners are so wonderful and filling. who needs to eat again? Char

Char, you are definitely a single-digit size! There is no such thing as a finite number of desserts, no matter how late.

I like midnight buffets AND 24 hr. restaurants, even if they do only have pizza and hamburgers! But those "midnight bites" and little hor d'horve trays they walk around w/on RCI and a few other lines, forget it. Half the time they aren't even serving them at the times listed, or in the areas listed.

24 hour restaurants. I avoided the midnite buffet since I prefer 2nd dinner seating.
