Here's proof that you shouldn't believe everything you see on the news. As many of you know, I sailed on the Fantasy out of Port Canaveral this past Thursday, September 5. Well, we had Tropical Storm Edouard bearing down on the port right as we were preparing to leave. On Tuesday night, I was packing and getting ready to go, when my future mother-in-law called me to say that she saw on the news (Channel 2 for you Orlandoans) that the cruise lines were cancelling their Thursday sailings out of Port Canaveral! So I go into panic mode and call Carnival's travel hotline. I told the lady who answered about what I heard, and she said, "no, we haven't cancelled anything." She sounded absolutely baffled. I was much embarrassed.
So I'm mad at the news! You can imagine the moment of panic I went through. The news has a responsibility to be accurate. I can't believe someone didn't check this before it aired.
And no mother-in-law jokes <G>, she's a very reliable source and I'm sure she wouldn't have called me if she wasn't certain that the news had reported that the cruises were being cancelled.

Some things are so easily misinterpreted that I would caution against blame. The news may have said something of the effect "with the approaching storm the cruiselines may cancel their upcoming Thursday departures" and your mother-in-law heard "the cruiselines will cancel their upcoming Thursday departures." I don't know, but it is so easily misheard.
I think I heard Mrs. Thomas say I never listen to her too!
I agree Thomas... I'm not certain of what my mother-in-law heard exactly. She called me and said that according to the news, the cruiselines were cancelling their Thursday departures. It's very possible that she could have misheard.
I don't know if I like the idea of the news reporting on possiblities, either, though. I guess I think of "news" as "things that have happened" or facts. (Notwithstanding the tabloids.)
By the way, Thomas, I found that spot on the Fantasy behind Windows on the Sea you were talking about... what a nice, relaxing place to watch the water! Thanks for the tip.

Rick, where've you been? Have you taken another trip on the Pride without inviting us?
BTW, wanted to say I didn't need your lucky hat on the SOS, well maybe I did come to think of it. I was waiting on Mrs. Thomas to meet me so I decided to sit down at the closest slot machine to the door and I fed it a dollar and pulled the handle. It hit for 267!!
Then I looked at the machine and it was a nickel slot!!! Anyway, I never play the slots so I took the payout and crammed all those nickels in every pocket I had. Why couldn't I have sat at a dollar, or even quarter machine??
