Just walked in the door from the airport. The end of a 24 hr travel day, getting back from Europe.
We had been scheduled to leave Barcelona to London at 12:20, and to leave London at 3 PM. Not really enough time to get around Heathrow Airport, even if things go well. They didnt <G>
The flight left Barcelona 1/12 hrs late. Got to Heathrow to find out our flight had left. They said if we ran they could get us to Vancouver on British Airways, then connecting with Air Canada, on to Calgary. We bused to the International terminal, ran to the gate just as they were boarding. This flight then sat at the gate... and left 50 minutes late.
How is it, the flight you're connecting to, is always the only one that leaves on time??!!
At Vancouver we were paged by British Air. There was no need to wait for luggage at customs because ours was not on the airplane. 4 suitcases... which will hopefully get delivered tomorrow.
A luxurious 2 weeks cruising on the Constellation... and then a quick welcome to the real world medicroity of the airline industry. BUT.. we made it home safe and had a TERRIFIC time!!
If Geela is anything like me, the longer it takes for the dirty laundry to show up, she's golden. And, if Geela is anything like me, she won't care if she doesn't see makeup for a week or two. (Not that she needs it.)
my husband has a golden rule about flying within europe...always leave 3 hours between connecting flights. heīs right, too (atleast that has always been my experience.) less than three hours - you arenīt going to make the flight. i always try to prove him wrong and usually end up either making the flight without my luggage or missing it all together. extremely frustrating.
coming back from chicago two years ago, i ended up missing my connecting flight to hamburg from paris. i got on another flight but my luggage did not. finally worn out and happy to be home, i crashed. at 2:30am my neighbors called to tell me that someone was trying to break into my house. i started to panic and called our town police officer. he came over immediately and caught the *thief.* it was the guy delivering my luggage! he had rung the doorbell several times but i hadnīt heard it. he was busy wrapping my luggage in plastic foil to store underneath the carport when the police officer came over (in his robe...ggg) everything was ok in the end and now i know that when i lose my liggage to indicate a time period when to deliver it.
hope your luggage makes it back at a reasonable time, kuki!
Its always sad to have a cruise come to an end, but hey, there is always that "next" one to look forward to. Hope you see your luggage today, but better having that happen now and not when you started your cruise
Welcome back to you and Geela. I'm sorry, for your sake, that you're back, but happy for us! Too bad about the flights and the luggage, but hey, don't sweat the small stuff! You're home safe and sound and that's what counts. Glad to have you back, and I hope the PCD doesn't hit TOO hard!
