Power Lines Divide Entergy, Cruise Ship Company
Giant 'Conquest' Forced Into Narrow Corridor Over Cost
NEW ORLEANS -- In what promises to be a huge economic boost for the city, New Orleans is getting ready to greet one of the largest cruise ships in the world -- but there is just one problem: power lines.
For the Carnival cruise ship "Conquest" to enter the Port of New Orleans, Entergy must raise a set of sagging power lines hanging over the river at the Chalmette ferry. The lines cross 300-foot towers on either side, but sag to 176 feet in the middle of the river.
Location: Wisconsin....about 100 miles south of the Frozen Tundra and 70 miles east of Camp Randall
Re: Cruise Ship Cuts Power from NOLA?
Carnival makes a point - the port of New Orleans lobbied to have them come there and wanted a bigger ship and ......oops!!!! The electric company has a little bit of a problem....and I do agree that the Army Corps of Engineers decree be upheld. Carnival should not have to pay for the correction to this problem. jmho
