Re: So can I Lock my check-on luggage???
Sure hope they start sealing the searched luggage after they are done so that you can tell if it was tampered with after the search - or the least they can do is put a cable tie back on the luggage (jmho).

Leave out the bombs, guns and other contraband and lock your luggage. The same luggage handlers who are notorious for stealing stuff from luggage will still be handling it (in addition to the Federal inspectors). I'd rather have the inspectors cut off a $ 3.00 lock than send my luggage through the system unlocked.
I read they are going to have a stack of cable ties in the search area so they can re-secure the bags after they have been searched. But of course those ties haven't been designed or ordered yet and the federal gov't can't just go down to Home Depot and buy a couple bags of the ties until their's come in.
You should call your departure airport and find out their procedure. Those aiports with the room and floor space are going to have you run all your checked luggage through the machines and possibly be searched in your presence before you check-in and give the airline your luggage. Other smaller airports will have the x-ray machine in private. So you might be able to use the locks without worry of them being broken at those airports.
Big hint for you. The "bomb sniffing" machines can't distinguish between chocolate and a plastic bomb (same density) so don't pack any chocolate in your checked luggage or it will be searched for sure.
My opinion, lock it with cable ties and if they are disturbed when you retrieve your luggage call a supervisor and demand they watch while you check for theft or broken items. I don't like the idea and will never like giving up rights to privacy nor allowing people to go through my personal belongings without me watching them.
