Default Anyone Ever Had Luck Booking a Free "Bump" Airline

We took a bump on a flight returning from a friend's wedding and received a free roundtrip ticket almost anywhere Northwest flies, except Hawaii and Europe, and are having a horrible time trying to get a flight with it. We tried the day we got back to get tickets for our Feb. cruise (this was early Oct.) and they had nothing going in or out of MIA or FLL available for 2 weeks on either end of the dates. So we tried to get a flight to SJU to try out the new Jubilee southern but you can't fly on Northwest's codeshare partners (continental) and that is the only way Northwest gets to Puerto Rico now (this would be for late Sept.). We have also tried to get to LAX for a cruise in late Sept. but they are booked too.

So my question is: Has anyone successfully booked a "real" flight with one of these bump tickets? What was your strategy when talking with NWA? I am starting to think that I will only be able to get a winter flight to Buffalo with these tickets. Any experiences out there?

We can only book our flight in W class seats on the plane. And apparantly they don't exist. Or they are the same class as FF seats. I know people have to book the 2 available FF seats on any good flight about 1 year in advance.
The ticket says it is good for 48 contigous states, Alaska, Canada, Puerto Rico, Caribbean, Asia, Micronesia, and Japan. But when I talked to the customer service rep at NWA to try to book a flight she said that it could only be used on a true NWA flight (this was before she took any personal info from the voucher) no partnerships. So that really means no where in the Caribbean or Asia because they fly their partner Continental to the Caribbean now and KLM to Asia. Since they don't say NWA on the tail of the airplane the ticket isn't good.
Is NWA the only one who still issues the free ticket versus the dollar amount voucher?

I'm going to try calling again on Monday. I have a feeling the person I talked to yesterday was not a very good customer service person, seeing as he hung up on me after I asked him to check a different date when our first choice was full.

Have used bump tickets several times and never had a problem. None have been on Northwest however, but American, USAir and Southwest (that was $$$ towards a flight) have always had seats available for us to use. Sorry to hear you are having problems.

Well today I found a great ticket agent with Northwest who was helpful and found us seats on a flight to Los Angeles so we can go on the Mexican Rivera cruise that we have been so looking forward to going on. We are on a red-eye coming back but that is okay, considering the flight is free.
So now we are booked on the Carnival Pride for Sept. 28th sailing, an anniversary trip and birthday trip for us.

Thanks for your help and suggestions.
