POLL- BIG ships, LITTLE ships, IN BETWEEN ships?

What's your personal preference?? There are lots of choices for us now.. 10,000 tons range, 50,000 ton range, 70,000 ton range, 90,000 ton range , or 100,000 +

Do you prefer the itty bitty ships where you know everyone onboard after a day, or the mega behemouths were they try and make variety "the spice of life"?

Give us a range of 30K to 60K and we are happy. We have sailed on 3K and had a wonderful time with only 300 Passengers and we have enjoyed the 12K and that was outstanding. So If it is big or small just let us board her. Our next cruise is 34K and we hope that will be fine. Only problem now is the lack of a Launderette. The Crown Odyssey does not have that, but we can manage for the 45 days onboard. If necessary we can use the ships facilities.

I haven't tried enough ships in enough size ranges to say. I am therefore taking up a collection so that I can conduct an independent research project. Your donations are fully tax-deductable.

Cheers,
Michelle B.

Oh you are so funny Michelle
No little bitty ship for me . Like pools and lots to do.I realy did like the Radiance last month.
Wonder what it must be like to stay on the same ship for 45 days. I believe I would switch ships after 3 weeks LOL

I prefer the 70 to 90 K range of ships...anything bigger than that is too big in my opinion.

70 to 90 is right for us

70 sounds good to me. I'll do the 100,000+ but they are rather overwhelming!!!

Just get me onboard!

I thought the amount of room per passenger on HAL Statendam (55K)was great and plenty of things to do. We also had more than enough on the Rhapsody. I don't go rock climbing at home, don't need 14 resturants for a week or so cruise and would rather be on a ship that looks and feels like a ship! I realize that squeezing in more balconies is an overriding issue in ship design these days.

I'm kinda partial to the 90,000 size. But then I guess if you put me on a ship, any ship, I'd be happy. Just happier with 90,000.

Re: POLL- BIG ships, LITTLE ships, IN BETWEEN ships?

My two favorate ships fall into the 70k and 90 k range , but then my next two favorates are just below the 50k range. Biggest I've been on was 100+ and was simply much more ship than anyone would ever need.

Re: POLL- BIG ships, LITTLE ships, IN BETWEEN ships?

I vote for 50K. Besides 3 days on Sovereign of the Seas, 50,000 has been the largest I have been on. Of course, you need to look at both GRT and Passenger Space Ration. 50,000 with 700 pax is a lot different than 50,000 and 1400 pax.

small to medium

I have sailed on Commodore's Enchanted Capri 15,410 tons PAX=468
Carnival Inspiration 70,000 tons Pax=2100
Holland America Massdam 55,000 tons Pax=1200
The smaller the ship the greater the camaraderie. The smallish Capri was my first criuse and therfore the most memorable. But she was plain!! Of the 3 ships, I would say the Maasdam was the best of both worlds. Small enough to get to know people, and large enough for the amenities found the bigger ships. Seems like a single person would get lost in crowd on these 142,000 ton 3,114 pax super megas!

The 66,000 to 78,000 ton range is perfect for us. Anything larger is just too big, too many people. The Celebrity Century class of ships or Royal Caribbean Vision class are nice too.We love all the glass and many nice viewing area's on RCL, but the food and service is better on Celebrity. Princess has several ships that are in the 70,000 ton range that are comfortable too.

100,000 and up. I love all ships above 40,000 but prefer 100,000 and up

Re: POLL- BIG ships, LITTLE ships, IN BETWEEN ships?

I've experienced 45,000 ton and 109,000 ton ships, and several increments in between. Although I have a wonderful time on any ship, and can't wait to try a really small ship, I am drawn to the larger vessels. the 90,000 ton range has plenty of places to explore and still seem like a ship.

Of course I need many more cruises to provide a scientific statiscal answer. Michelle, please let me know if your experiment is privately funded. I would be most happy to "work" with you.

I have only experieced the mid-size ships (70-90K) so far and have loved them, the Sea Princess is my favorite so far, however we are sailing on the Golden next year so i will have a frame of reference, any ship will do right about now. I am getting sick of winter and its still January (urrgh)

Re: POLL- BIG ships, LITTLE ships, IN BETWEEN ships?

I've experienced cruising on all different sized ships and loved EVERYONE of them.
However, I guess my latest preference is for the 70,000 - 90,000 range. But - I would gladly return to Radisson's "Song of Flower" (very small ship - not sure of the tonnage) when I am able to afford cruising on her again.

Been on 17,000 ton ships up thru 102,000 ton ships, and I prefer the larger ones. I like having more choices.
