Okay so cupid has shot his arrow and Valentine's Day is here again. Do you or don't you celebrate Valentine's Day? I know a lot of folks think this is a "Hallmark Holiday". I'd love to hear your opinions and how much you get into this day. Gary and I went away last weekend for our Valentine's gift to each other (it was just an excuse to get away) and we do the card thing. I did buy him and the kids the Hershery Hearts full of candy. Let's hear it from all you romantics out there. Don't let my brother and sister in-law read this...they own a candy factory!

Valentine's Day is my mommy's birthday, so at our house the birthday celebration always took center stage, but we also always got a Valentine from our parents. Since I married and left home, there has always been a little "love" celebration, but not big going out to dinner or florist's deliveries or anything. I feel especially blessed to be able to continue to celebrate my mommy's birthday on Valentine's day, because today she is 80 years old. After the stroke she suffered a little over 3 years ago, we consider each new year she is with us to be an extra special gift from God.
My dear hubbie found some deal online for 3 days of flowers for your sweetie. So I got tulips on wednesday, stargazer lilies yesterday and probably roses today. I love flowers so this is great. We are not planning on braving the crowds at the restaurants tonight, just a private dinner at home.
I sent flowers to my mom and to my aunt (who lives alone) to brighten their days. Powers, the website I use co-brands with my favorite airline (midwest express) and you can get frequent flyer points when you buy flowers through that company. So we were working on a free flight too.
Though I'm sure many will find it hard to believe <G>, I am a romantic.
However, I've never been one to operate by a calendar that tells me when to do what. Personally I choose to bring home gifts or flowers for the lovely Mrs Kuki when the mood strikes, and it's a nice surprise, or if it seems Mrs. Kuki maybe needs a little lift.
So... at the Kuki Kastle today is just another day.
Valentines is a big occasion at the daycare where I work, and my favourite part is making all the bright coloured decorations with the kids. But I missed all the celebrations this week, being stuck at home after foot surgery. Hubby made up for it though with my favourite chocolates and a great cruise-ship card!
yes we do celebrate but not overboard. I left Dave a box of thin mints and a box of conversation hearts on the front seat of his car this am and he gave me a balloon, box of candy and a beautiful card that oddly enough was in Spanish.....no we're not.....I took it to work and had a coworker translate. After that I left Dave a message that I fully expect him to bring all the roses in the world and lay them at my feet when he gets home from work!
(after all......that's what the card promised!)
On a sentimental note today would've been my parents 50th wedding anniversary but sadly mom died 15 years ago and with dad having Alzheimers he doesn't remember. My sister and I will take him to brunch on Sunday.
