Of all those poor people stuck in the airports in the N.E. who have paid for their vacations and are not able to go. Don't you know many of them did not book air through the cruiselines or bought travel insurance, and who've coughed up $5000 for a cruise they will never get.
Just reinforces the need for Travel Insurance. But even then the thought of missing a cruise that I had anticipated for so long would make me sick even if I got my money back. One of the reasons why I would never cruise in the winter having to travel from the Northeast without going in a day early. That way I could drive if I had to. And believe me I would.
But you're right Thomas, my heart goes out to them for the loss of their vacation.

Re: I am just SICK, SICK I tell ya'
I too feel sorry for them.......but in this case I think even if they went a day ahead they'd still be in the same predicament....this storm lasted more than 24 hours. In Milwaukee we have passengers stranded here who are trying to get back East and they are being told it may be Wednesday before they can get out of here....
Crown Princess 1/18/14....the NEW Me, Myself and I cruise!
Driving is only an option if you can get out of your driveway and your street is plowed!
2 years ago we went to FL for the New Years week. Big storm came and all airports were closed. Since we knew it was coming we tried to get a flight the day before, no luck! We wound up Flying New Year's Eve and just got off the plane at midnight only to wait a VERY long time for our luggage, they were celebrating and no one met the plane to take off the luggage!
I really feel for people who save, plan and anticipate getting out of town for a vacation and then everything goes haywire.
I'm a weather hound and somewhat of a fanatic about it. This storm was coming and I would have gotten myself out of Dodge!!! However, not always easy when you're working, kids, arrangements, etc. but also the insurance is a necessity.
There's still people stuck at O'Hare, too and probably all the way to the other coast with the domino affect, not a good thing.
