Default Interesting Question for Everyone

I was listening to the radio this morning and they were polling listeners.
Here's the question.
What is something you are paying for NOW that you did not pay for ten years ago.
Now, child support, alimony, etc don't count.
Here are a few things to get you started.
Cell Phones
Internet
OnStar Systems
Digital Cable

Ok, put on your thinking caps!

Bottled water
to speak to a bank teller
411 information
maps
air for tires
service at gas pump

Don't get me started.... also this may be longer than ten years.

ATM fees. I remember the big banks saying they would start charging for face to face counter visits. They wanted everyone to use ATMs and that by doing so, customers could avoid the teller fees. Can "you say bait and switch?"

$10,000 expected costs PER HOUSEHOLD over the next ten years for the pending war in Iraq and the money it will take to "rebuild" the region. That is according to N.P.R. on o2-27-03. I hate it when polititians say they won't raise taxes. Read his lips.

If Iraq's main export was broccoli we wouldn't be going to war.

Oil IS the issue, whether we kloke it or not.

Great.... well you obviously have no idea what is really going on over there!
Maybe we should all just wait around until he decides to attack countries with biological and chemical/nuclear weapons??? That sounds like a GREAT idea!
Hey, maybe all the aliens from other planets will come over to help us. I mean, our own citizens are more concerned about money anyhow!
Maybe you DON'T know everything, and maybe there are things happening, going on, or about to happen that YOU don't know about!
Free speach is great, that is why I speak! Your opinion is yours... so just offering mine.

What happens if we DON'T do something? Do you know? Because what will happen if we don't do something now will make 9/11 look like a little walk in the park.
I don't think you understand what is in the works over there. Do you know what Saddams plans are? No? Well someone does.
Ugh.

Easy folks. This is NOT the forum for this discussion. You are both entitled to your thoughts, but the vast majority of us do not turn to this forum to have this type of discussion. Let's get back on topic.
In my case the single largest thing I pay for now that I did not pay for 10 years ago is CRUISING.

Hold back a little guys. This really is not the place for political discussions. Politics and religion get things too stirred up and there is no reasoning with others over it, you believe what you believe so lets just drop that part. <G> The question was what are you paying for now that used to be free or non-existant or unthought of.

The weirdest one for me.. for my business the banks now charge a fee for depositing cash, coin or checks.

Kuki,

Our old bank did the same thing. We were making our regular night deposits as normal and found on our statement a $3.00 charge each day for deposits. Boy, was I mad. Me and King Kong could've walked into an alley and only one of us come out. And it wouldn't have been the monkey ! I stormed into the bank and said, "you mean you are charging me to put money INTO your bank?" She smiled and said that was their new policy.

I said to close the account at that moment and she said there would be an $8.00 charge to close the account. I walked down the street and wrote out a check for the entire balance in the other bank except for 5 cents. And I still have 5 cents in that old bank.

Absurd!

Regards,
Thomas

This is why I belong to a credit union, gave up on the banks about 15 yrs. ago, too many extra charges.

Internet, Cell Phone and Sattelite TV are the only ones I pay that I didn't pay 10 yrs. ago.

I pay when I order checks, but all checking/savings are free at my credit union, incl. the ATM for deposits or withdrawals. Of course, I'm not sure if something happens would a credit union be as safe as a bank? There is a $ 5.00 monthly charge, if you don't have active accounts, not a problem for me, my Visa is through them, too.

That's something I forgot to mention, ISP charges. I've had a home computer for 10 years now and originally used freenet via our local library system. Good heavens, how I miss DOS!

I also use my credit union for everything I used to use the bank for. God bless them! And though I no longer work within the same industry as when I joined it, they've expanded their membership qualifications so that I'm still covered. It's wonderful!

I forgot , the biggest thing I have been paying for in the past 10 years that I did not pay for before is weddings. It's all Gram's fault. She went and had 3 daughters.

As most of you may have noticed, I'm still learning...
