Default They are changing our money again!

This is NOT a joke. They are really going to do this.
For the full scoop, go to CNN
The (new) color of money

Unveiling of the new $20 -- an effort to thwart counterfeiters -- is set for March 27.

The Bureau of Engraving and Printing will unveil a new $20 bill that will introduce a predominant but subtle color into the background, marking the first time in modern history that a bill will feature a color other than green.

According to the report, other changes will include new images of Andrew Jackson and the White House, as well as other adjustments that are being kept secret. The official unveiling will take place on March 27, with the new bill entering circulation in the fall.

Interesting. Reminds me a lot of the British pound.

Personally I think colored money is a good idea. When travelling in the US, one of my complaints was checking out what value of currency I was using in darker places... exiting a taxi in the evening, underlit lounges etc.

Just DON'T let them get rid of the $1 bill, like we've done in Canada. You wear holes in your pockets with all the change you end up lugging around. We now have a $1 and $2 coin, and they're talking about $5s being next. UGHH!! We'll all need to drag little red coin wagons along behind us instead of carrying wallets and purses.

When I travelled to England, it was just after they'd switched from the old octal based currency to a decimal system. Talk about an exchange nightmare. Old coins still in circulation bore values other than shown on the face. Change for purchases could be a mixture of old and new coinage. Certainly made this yankee scratch his head, at times!

I prefer the $1 coin to the $1 bill anytime. It is so much easier carrying 6 coins than 6 bills. I just wish they would catch on better.

I think what you are seeing in my opinion is a great idea, but they need to make the next step. If Washington wanted to cut the debt all they would need to do now is say "OK FOLKS YOU HAVE UNTILL THE END OF THIS YEAR TO TURN IN ALL GREEN PAPER MONEY because after that it will be worthless, call the I.R.S. and report what you have hidden in the house ,buried in the back yard, stashed in the safety deposit box, and we will only charge you 5%." Does anyone realize how much 5% would amount too????.......
I must be suffering from PCD the people in Washington are the ones who have it hidden, buried and stashed in the saftey boxes foolish me <VBG>

Hey, Kuki, I still have some of those coins! I save 'em because I know I'll be back some day!!!

I like the idea of different colors, I think it would make things easier. I know they are starting with the 20 which is the one most often counterfeited.

Looking at the colors, it makes me think of my dad, who was very color blind, not just a little but almost total except for yellow.

Well, it's about time you Americans got coloured money! I have such a hard time defining bills when I'm visiting. We've had different coloured bills for a long time, and I love the Loonies an Twoonies ($1 and $2 coins). I especially like our purple $10 bills - my favourite colour!

I agree with Kuki! In Germany the money was changed and now the coins are in 1's 2's etc. That's a lot of money to carry around! Here in the USA the dollar coin never took off. I have a few but I never seen them at the stores. Isn't this odd??????

Kuki--

The difference is that here a dollar is worth a dollar. Up there a Canadian dollar is only worth 67.9821 cents. Who needs a bill for 67.9821 cents?

Do I win today's "Ugly American" prize?

AR.. our "weak" dollar is just a ploy to strengthen our postion as a trade partner with you below the 49th parallel <G>

You guys purchase alot of goods and services from your conservative neighbors to the north, which wouldn't happen if our dollars were at par.

The weak dollar only really hurts the fools like me who have the need to escape south too often.

And when you adopt the $1, $2 and $5 coins we'll be selling you the thread to repair all the holes in your pockets<G>
