As one wanders the staircases , hallways and public rooms of today's cruise ships there are certainly some "interesting" pieces of art displayed. What comes to mind
are things like the gilded spider (or whatever it is supposed to be) that dominates the attrium of Inspiration, the jeweled mermaid heads on the staircases of Summit as well as the reclining fat lady at the thelosotherapy pool on Summit. Perhaps the Urns on Legend.
What is your vote for best , worst or most unique piece of art on a cruise ship?
I love the sculpture of the Manta Rays in the pool on the Golden Princess,,,by Wyland. He also did a couple of dolphins by the elevators between both pools on the 14th deck. Very nice.
The chandelier in the showroom on the Triumph is grotesque. Every time I looke at it, I had to laugh. It looked like it was growing hair - and punk hair at that! Otherwise the ship was not all that bad, but the chandelier spoiled the whole showroom.
The one that sticks out in my mind is the big "LOVE" sculpture on the Millennium. It was on the starboard side of the Sunrise Deck, as you left the Cosmos lounge to go out on deck. It was just the huge letters in the word "Love" stacked on top of each other like this:
LO
VE
I thought it was sweet.
Cheers,
