CARNIVAL CRUISE LINES TO NAME NEW 110,000-TON 'FUN SHIP' CARNIVAL LIBERTY
New 2,974-Passenger SuperLiner Set to Debut in Fall 2005
MIAMI (03/12/03) - Carnival Liberty is the name chosen by Carnival Cruise
Lines for its new 110,000-ton SuperLiner scheduled to enter service in fall
The fourth in the line's 110,000-ton Conquest-class series, the massive
2,974-passenger 'Fun Ship' will be constructed by Italian shipyard
Fincantieri Cantieri Navali Italiani S.p.A.. Carnival Liberty's homeport and
itinerary have yet to be announced.
"Carnival Liberty continues our company's tradition of providing our 'Fun
Ships' with memorable and distinctive names and promises to be a spectacular
addition to the fleet, offering the 'resort-style' amenities and features
desired by today's vacationers," said Bob Dickinson, Carnival president.
More than three football fields in length and towering 207 feet at its
highest point, Carnival Liberty will be among the largest passenger vessels
at sea. The 952-foot-long vessel will feature four restaurants, including
two twin-level formal dining rooms, an expansive two-deck-high casual
poolside eatery, and an upscale "steakhouse-style" supper club serving
hand-cut U.S.D.A. prime beef and other gourmet cuisine.
Carnival Liberty's 13 passenger decks will house 22 lounges and bars,
including a sports bar, wine bar, a three-deck-high theater showcasing
Vegas-style revues, a piano bar and various other live music venues.
Other features include a conference center, Internet café, a comprehensive
golf program offering professional instruction aboard ship and during golf
excursions, a duty-free shopping mall and a state-of-the-art
12,000-square-foot health club.
Particular emphasis will be paid to Carnival Liberty's children's
facilities, which will include a 4,200-square-foot play area and a
1,800-square-foot teen club and video game room.
Of the ship's 1,487 staterooms, 60 percent will offer either an ocean view
or balcony. Four swimming pools and a 214-foot-long water slide will be
featured, as well.
Carnival Liberty represents the seventh Carnival Cruise Lines "Fun Ship" to
be constructed by Fincantieri dating back to the 101,353-ton Carnival
Destiny, which entered service in November 1996.
In addition to Carnival Liberty, Carnival's current order book with
Fincantieri includes two other 110,000-ton "Conquest-class" vessels -
Carnival Glory, set to launch year-round seven-day Caribbean service from
Port Canaveral, Fla., July 19, 2003, and Carnival Valor, set to debut in
