Today's Poll: If you could change one thing.....

If you could change just one thing about the cruise industry, what would it be? I would like to see ALL cruiselines offer a number of "single" cabins at a reduced rate so all the singles out there can cruise more often. How about you guys, what would you like to see.

Consistent pricing. The price is the price whether you book a year in advance or two weeks in advance. (I know they won't and can't do this, but that was not the question).

Hi Kids.....
One thing that has bothered me greatly, since I was taught to follow the rules is the DRESS CODE THING!!!! I have absolutely no problem if someone says its "its my vacation and I'll dress how I want" JUST dine in the alternative dining rooms..I think if a ship says FORMAL, and someone tries to enter the dining room, they should politely but firmly be directed to the many alternative choice options.....OR they could be made to walk the plank!! I would move all the cruise company headquarters to Orlando so I could get a job with one of them and cruise for free.

Cheers,

Have each cruise line establish a uniform code of conduct, behavoir, and dress and to Enforce that code.

Re: Today's Poll: If you could change one thing.....

Number one on my list, too, ML!!! I've written volumes on the subject, had two letters published in Cruise Travel Magazine on the dreaded single supplement!!!

My first cruise on NCL, the Southward, I had an outside cabin and it had just a twin bed! It was way forward, there were 8 cabins, no extra pricing, same as other categories.

What really got me back then was the lines that had single cabins but still priced them 150 to 175% over other categories!

I still hate it, but at least now if you pay that extra, you can get a decent location/size cabin before you paid extra and got the really awful locations!

Re: Today's Poll: If you could change one thing.....

More itineraries with two and three day visits to places that warrant them. The Caribbean excepted, the once-over-lightly treatment can be a real problem in the "so near and yet so far" sense. I always shake my head at one day stops in Rome, for example, where it's a couple hours on a bus each way to the city--leaving maybe four hours to "explore," most of which is spent in traffic jams.

The cruise lines' emphasis on "quantity"--how many ports can we squeeze in, instead of "quality"--how can we help people really appreciate the important historical and cultural centers of the world, is a big downside of cruising.

But it's also clear that these itineraries are the product of massive amounts of research which are obviously dictating the "one day stand" approach. It's an extension of our soundbite culture, I suppose.

Two things, No smoking on the ships and favorible pricing for those that book early. Some lines like Celebrity, RCI and Carnival don't try to stick it to you when you book way out , but HAL , Princess and Cunard usually do.(at least thats been my experience on the many cruises I have booked) Let the cruiselines reward loyal customers rather than have fire sales to anyone 6 weeks before the ship is to sail.

How about enforcing the "No Reserving" rule. You know, poolside lounges, and seats in the theater.

Hey Susan, welcome back from the Brilliance.

One thing? Offer the true price of the cruise, not the come-on prices.

A second thing? Keep the casinos open when in port.

Thomas

Re: Today's Poll: If you could change one thing.....

I would like to see less homogeneity in the cruise industry. When someone is looking at Carnival, RCI, Princess, HAL, and Crystal as options (let alone NCL), then the cruise lines have started becoming indistiguishable.

Re: Today's Poll: If you could change one thing.....

I'd like to see some cruise lines sail from Phoenix so I wouldn't have to pay that darned air fare! <VBG>

Seriously, I love cruising. Have some minor incoveniences now and then, but as far as I'm concerned, it's all good!

I guess I can buy into doing away with that exhorbitant single supplement like ML and Susie say. Jose has so much trouble getting away from his job, and I've been at mine long enough to enjoy the reward of a decent amount of paid time off each year, so I could sail once in a while without him if it were more affordable.

I would like to see EACH cruise line with a smoke-free ship (like Carnival's Paradise).

Jennifer, your request made me picture a cruise ship with giant wheels on it zooming across the desert... maybe not a bad idea! <G>
