Default Poll: Would you like wine included with dinner?

To have at each table(according to table size) a bottle of good quality red and white wine.

It would not matter to me because I do not drink. I never liked wine when I did drink so it would not have mattered than either.

That would be a nice touch. Some lines (like Radisson) already offer wine included with dinner. But those lines are usually out of our price range.

My only concern would be that it would cause the bottom-line price of each cruise to increase dramatically.

Cheers,

The real question would be how much additional fare would you be willing to pay for it, and--from the cruise lines' point of view--how much screaming would this bring from those who don't drink yelling about "paying" for something they're not using?

Any line that goes this route would have to, at the very least, make all soft drinks at meals complimentary as well.

We Americans are a funny lot: we want things like cruises to be "all-inclusive," then when something is included that we're not interested in we complain that we're being shortchanged.

Don't drink and would not want to pay for others to imbibe. If ALL drinks were included, maybe different. Then you get into booze being more expensive than soft drinks, etc.etc. I think the cards are a nice idea, of course the alcohol cards (when available,if ever)would have to be appropriately more expensive than the "soft". More hassle. I'll keep drinking tea.

In the real world of "mainstream" cruising in order for something like this to work it would most likely have to be done as an option like the soda cards are now. Hmmm wine with dinner card??

Yes and no. We drink one bottle of red wine every evening with dinner. So this would be convenient, but a wine on the table that would marry with eight different entrees may be impossible. We try to match our wine to our entree selection. I wouldn't want them to place a nice bottle of beaujolais on the table and end up having steak. Likewise, I wouldn't want cabernet sauvignon with fish, turkey or chicken. If wine was included then you had a selection of 10 different varietals and bodies, that may work.

The only wines I remember going with every thing were SLY FOX and BOONES FARM.
Of course I have long since (lo these many years) hopped upon the wine waggin'.

Well, nowadays there are four varieties of the famous "Two Buck Chuck," which is surprisingly OK for the price.

I'd like it, but I don't think the idea would ever fly on the mainstream cruise lines.

I am a wine drinker, so I almost always have a glass with dinner, so yes, that would be nice :-)

I don't drink wine.. so if they're going to include your wine, they can also include my smokes, bbcs, and casino chips <G>

"Two Buck Chuck" is a halfway respectable table plonk that a guy in Napa is bottling and selling for two bucks in California--$3.50 or so in the East (transportation and exorbitant East Coast taxes). The real name is Charles Shaw, and Trader Joe's can barely keep it in stock.

I think it is probably a good idea even though I do not drink.

I love having wine at dinner. Radisson also provides any other alchohol also at dinner (I always have a scotch while reviewing the menu and then port or sherry with dessert). Never see anyone really over imbibing[sp].

Hmmm. Off to Trader Joe's tomorrrow for some rice. But I don't think they sell alcohol here in the Quaint State.

Will find out. Will report.

As much as I like a good glassof wine, it doesn't like me. Within 3 minutes of the first swallow, my head itches so badly that I can hardly concentrate. I am, apparantly, alergic to fermented grapes. Not so with the distilled alcohols. Every so often I convince myself that it really isn't so bad and I buy a bottle of wine, and...here I go all over again! So, I guess complimentary wine wouldn't be a good idea for me.
