Default Movies at Sea

Hi Kids
How do you all feel about seeing movies while on a cruise...There are some movies that I will always identify in my mind with a cruise....On my last one I saw My Big Fat Greek Wedding in the theater on the Mercury.....I must say though, their theater leaves a lot to be desired..Its wedge shaped, without stadium seating, and the acoustics were not the best, and people kept opening the door , so I rented the movie when it came out on dvd to see what i had missed...The one on the Grand was a fabulous venue to see the movie, although the projector broke and we waited for a while for it to resume..In cabin movies I will always relate to a ship are, Steel Magnolia's and Primal Fear...sometimes it can take you all week to see the complete movie, snatching 5 minutes here and there, but it makes for fond memories......

Yeah, last cruise I got to see Austin Powers "Gold Member" in bits and pieces of 5 mins. here and there. Still haven't seen the whole movie in chronological order! Unless it's pouring rain, I can't see wasting time seeing a movie in and inside theatre. I'm there for the sunshine and salt air! Maybe a movie shown on deck under the stars would be an idea....

That''s funny Donna. We do the same thing. While we're in the cabin getting ready for dinner or whatever, we catch 15 minutes of a movie, then another 15 later on, all through the cruise. We have never seen a movie on ship, from credits to credits.

I too saw "My big fat greek wedding while in Alaska last year. I do sometimes check and see whats playing and see what looks good. Yes, I do agree, some theaters do have a lot to be desired, but a great way to fill in a few hours during a cruise.

If I remember right our kids went and saw a movie in the cabin. I love movies but on a cruise I care less. Maybe if I ever go on a longer cruise like 11 days I would find the time to check one out. There are so mnay other things to do on a ship and I can always check out movies at home!

We love to watch the movies on TV during a cruise (great way to kick back in the afternoon). I laughed about the 15 mins here and there -- exactly the way it works, but eventually you catch the whole thing (as long as it's a 7-night cruise) :-)

I am not that much of a movie person (my VCR isn't even hooked up right now) so I passed on the opportunity to see "Greek Wedding" on my cruises. However, hearing everyone rave about that one, I will make sure I see it, maybe my satellite pay per view one night!

I did see clips of Goldie and Susan S. in the Bangor Sisters on TV so this cruise, April and I watched it in the room, in pieces but pretty much saw the whole thing, very funny!
I guess because I relate to the age, the clothes, etc.

On one cruise, I was fighting a horrible sinus infection so I watched movies that cruise and towards the last day so many people were sick, I felt safer in the room!!! :-)

Never ever. I have no wish for movies, internet or things like that on a cruise. I rented "Greek Wedding"........didn't care for it. Me, Kathy and Ashley saw Maid in Manhattan.....now THAT one we all liked.

I don't want to be cooped up in a room or movie theater on a ship. I want fresh air. We don't even turn on the tv while getting ready for dinner. Other than ships news and stuff, we don't bother to turn the tv on during a cruise.

I love the idea of a movie on deck under the stars, that would be so romantic!

Depends on the movie. We sometimes do what most people have mentioned, that is catch 15 minutes or so at a time of a movie, and only once have gone to the theater to see a movie, for "My Big Fat Greek Wedding." They must have been showing that one on every cruise last year!

I agree, though, the theater left a lot to be desired. It was very hard to see around people's big heads. Plus it was overcrowded and people were sitting on the floor.

Cheers,
Michelle B.

Its not really for me. I would much rather be doing something that I can't do at home.

We watched My Big Fat Greek Wedding in the theatre on the Costa Atlantica, I thought it was kinda fun and a little romantic. Like being teenagers again, only you can drink alcohol. :-)

Susie, I believe I saw previews that My Big Fat Greek Wedding is now playing on satellite PPV. It is truly a good movie.

We watched "Mama Mia" (again) on one ship because my wife MUST watch the film whenever it's on even though we have the DVD. On Azura they have MUTS but it didn't occur to us to even think about it.

this is definitely an old thread but a good one. We have found that we love a ship that has a Lido decl screen for the movies at night. With all the work that hubby does we don't take the time to go to the movies at home so it is nice to see something pretty new on a cruise. And we have found that we really don't care much for most of the entertainment on the ship so new movies are perfect for us.

If I've nothing else to do, I don't mind setting down and watching something on a big MUTS screen, but certainly don't plan around movies - especially inside.

I was a little thrown off the last time I tried MUTS. People saved and hogged lounge chairs. Kids were running all over the place tripping and knocking into the lounge chairs and the people sitting in them. I was afraid to get up for popcorn for fear I'd lose my seat. Everyone is talking and partying around the pool and hot tubs so it is easy to lose what is going on in the movie. I didnt enjoy it, but maybe it was just that one time. I am going on a cruise in April and will definitely try it again to see if I have a different experience. Has anyone else experienced this?

On our last cruise we watched Michael Jackson's “This Is It” and Pirates of the Caribbean at the outdoor theater. Very nice!

I realize this is an old recycled thread, but having just returned from another cruise, I have something to add....We had in-cabin special movies that were pretty good, and got caught up in watching Water for Elephants. Unfortunately, we had to leave it unfinished in order to go celebrate New Years onboard, and although the "pause" feature brought it back to where we left off, we couldn't get it to play again, so now we will have to go rent it to see how it ended!

Default Movies at Sea

We've watched a few movies in the afternoon at sea. Can't remember their titles. I also like movies on the large outdoor screen.

The movies I watch can only be shown on my laptop!
