It isn't just Crystal nor just Toronto. Both CCL and Princess last week announced that they would refuse boarding to anyone that has been in a SARS hotspot area within the last ten days prior to boarding and unless they are checked by the Dr within 30 days of visiting those areas. The news report is on out homepage in the news section. SARS is nothing to sneeze at. Look at the problem with the Norwalk like virus. Now as bad as you might feel with that it wasn't something that was fatal. SARS can be and is fatal to quite a few people, especially the elderly and the very young. Anyone contracting or coming down with SARS onboard a ship would cripple the industry for awhile and may be enough to put some over the edge of failure. Nothing to play with.
That is interesting. What about flying out of Toronto I am concerned about that.
Celebrity has me flying from Vancouver to Toronto and on to Raleigh NC. Nest Month.
I have been thinking about getting in touch with my TA about that. A m I over reacting? I have alot of elderly relatives, that could NOT survive Sars should they be exposed.
My humble opinion...you should be okay. The Toronto Airport isn't really in Toronto. It's in Mississauga, well outside of the Toronto core.
That being said, it doesn't stop another passenger from the Toronto area, or from the other "infected" countries from being at the airport at the same time as you. Remember that the SARS outbreak started in Asian countries. Vancouver is largely Asian. A lot of the Asian population in Vancouver have relatives in Toronto. Call your travel agent and for that matter your government and see if there are any specific restrictions.
Thank you for your advise.Called my TA, she says Celebrity is NOT changing in and outgoing flights in Toronto. Of course you are right. Vancouver or for that matter anywhere I guess. Thank you again Auguste
Jay and Karen, do you have any connections to Toronto? Work, or travel? Or are you far enough away? Here in Montreal there have been 450 people quarantined for the last 10 days because they were exposed to a Torontonian with SARS at a business conference at a local hotel. I was at a teacher's conference in the same hotel only a week before, so you see how things can happen! So far, no more cases have appeared from those quarantined, and the quarantine will be lifted at midnight tonight.
Karen works in Mississauga which is half way between home and Toronto. She works in major market retail, so anything is possible. I work with people all day long as well. So, although we don't have any connection to Toronto, we still have the someone infects two people and they infect two people and they infect two people and so on and so on, thing to worry about.
My girlfriend and I would be devastated if our cruise was cancelled.
It's only our second, and our first trip out of the country just the 2 of us.
I'm planning to pop the question on this cruise.
I phoned Princess yesterday and they said so far, Toronto passengers are
not being denied, but they are monitoring the situation closely. I heard on the
news this morning that the alert has been heightened. I don't remember exactly
what the alert was ("travel-in" perhaps).
I'm from Toronto, and I already made final payment on the trip with no travel insurance.
If you were me, would you be concerned, and what would you do?
