We did not go for the Sleds. We have done them a couple of times before so we passed. We looked at the Cable from a distance. We were able to view the Cable from the Bottom all the way to the top from the ship. Could not leave our TABASCO long enough to venture out any more.
I am working on captions for the Lisbon images now. Should be up in a bit.
We wanted to hire a taxi and the first guy in line looked a little bit scary. We then looked around and found the most elegant looking taxi driver I have ever seen in a beautiful Mercedes sedan. He was an amazing host, seemed like a dignitary was escorting us around the island.
I think he asked about $80 for 3 or so hours. Had him drop us off at the Reid's hotel and had snacks and drinks there before walking back to the pier. On the pier was a locals watering hole where we stopped and got a Coral beer. Could have been that I was very thirsty but it seemed the best beer I ever had. Can't find it anywhere.
Hello hello, all, was hoping I could find some tips.
I'm on a TA to Barcelona, stopping one day in Funchal.
Does anyone have any tips for what to do, where to go, how to get there from the cruise ship port in Funchal? Can you walk out from the pier to the town? I was hoping to see the city without doing a tour (trying to save $$ getting to Europe!), so I don't want to get too far away from the boat either, but a short bus ride somewhere interesting might be nice.
The Pier is close to the City. You can walk in in about 25 mins. Prettty long. They should have shuttle service or you can use a taxi. Last time I was there we used a taxi to take to the top of the hill to get the sled ride down. Nice.
