Default Crawling Out of My Hole

Just saying hello. Been out of commission for a while. Please permit me to unload my troubles upon you.........

The fecal matter really hit the rotaing ventilation device this past month, and I (and Mrs.) narrowly escaped being committed. Here is a brief summary:

- July 30 our lease is up. Our new home is ready to be delivered, but the mortgage papers are not in order (notary worked 4 out of the last 14 days) so we moved into a $200 hotel room (usually a $70 room, but the Jazz festival is on) and waited. Stored our worldly possessions in my warehouse, which most folks are not lucky to have. A small blessing.

- July 05 My son is born oficially homeless. My 18 month old daughter is staying with grandma in the hotel room, and I shuttle from hospital to hotel. I am officially a cripple from sleeping on what the hospital refers to liberally as a pull-out bed, but can't complain, because my wife endured far worse, and I get to wake up to my newborn boy.

- July 07 My lawyer (worth every penny) joins the fray. Things start to move as if by magic. Just not fast enough. Apparently, the notary's new temp (yeah, blame the temp) threw out my file by mistake.

-July 08 The hotel informs me that we must check out by July 09 at noon, as they are fully booked for the weekend. No other rooms to be had anywhere in the city, unless I'm willing to pay $1200 for a regular hotel room. I think not. Do people pay this? Expedia and Orbitz must be insane.

- July 09 ( noon) We check out, and are officially street people, and preparing to live in our car. My lawyer (bless his soul) calls on my cell, the only phone still working, and says to get to the notary office at 2:30, where the papers are finalized and we are handed the keys. Granted, we had to pay additional extortionary fees in order to get the keys ($1000 in interest to the builder??? It was HIS notary that lost our documents.... and (get this) $300 more to the notary, because he put in some extra time... well I guess it does take time to write up replacement papers...) but we at least have a roof over our heads.

The most galling part of all this is, I had the foresight to set the delivery date at June 04, which allowed a full month for unforseen circumstances.........

The damage:
$2000 for hotel
$1000 4 people eating out every day for 10 days
$1000 interest to the builder
$300 notary surcharge
$1050 legal fees
$500 to move twice
not to mention lost business because my (home office) phone was disconnected for 13 days, and not able to pick up business e-mail.

one word sums it up: (with deference to Charles Shultz)

AAAARRRRGGGHHHH!

CC - sorry that it has been so tough....maybe there is some recourse with the notary? After it was their fault the papers were lost in the first place!

Glad things are better now - and congratulations on the birth of your son!!!!

Can we start calling you Murphy? Sounds like what could have gone wrong, did! Congratulations on the birth of your son, and to getting into your new home.

Cynic, sorry to hear of all your troubles, but like a trooper, you have faced them with your sense of humour intact! I am very aware of the "homeless" problem on Montreal's "official" moving day, July 1st. Been there, done that, and don't ever want it to happen again. Congratulations on your new son, and I hope you have all settled into the new house, and that all is well with your world....

Yikes! What a story! Sorry to hear about your troubles. All that extra expense is worth several cruises, at least! I'm glad everything worked out and you have a roof over your head now.

And another bright note, congratulations on the birth of your son!

Cheers,
Michelle P.

Good job surviving it all.

Makes me glad that my lawyer and his wife have also been good personal friends for 30 years and more. If that had happened to me I'd have moved into their guest room and raided their refrigerator without batting an eye. ;-)

You really should be able to get some of that cash back. The question is how much it would cost in lawyers' fees to do it.

Someday you'll look back and laugh. Does the birth certificate say "no fixed address?"

First..Congrats on the New Baby Boy...I know you are a proud Dad.

Second..I hate you had all that trouble getting into the new place..what a drag.

Third...CAN I BUY THE RIGHTS TO YOUR BOOK AND POSSIBLY A MOVIE!!!!!
Because this would sure make a good one. I am like someone else above said..maybe there is some type of recourse with the ( DUH, here's your sign ) notary.
CC have a good one and may the days ahead be filled with joy and prosperity.

BigJohn ( wondering how things could get this messed up )

PS..CC? Iknow how this happedn now..One of our supervisors is on vacation in that part of the country..this is the only one that is that DUH!!..so it is possible that she probably had something to do with all this..if you see her..( tall blond, DUH looking lady followed by a Geeky looking Nerd) pleas point them in any direction but Arkansas). thank you.

What?... Sounds like any typical time for me...<jk> Wow, I guess the end result justifies the means, but could the means be any meaner? Congrats on lil’ Cynic and the new abode. I would say “things have to get better, because they couldn’t get much worse”, but it probably would only enhance the curse, that I could remove for $5000.00. Hey…that’s $850 less than what you’ve already thrown away.
Sure glad to have you back. You have been sorely missed!

Now, I have to find my resume and add extortion to the list…

Wow, that story does read like a TV show! Congrats on your new son and hopefully it will be "smooth sailing" from here on in with the house, a move, getting settled, etc.!

Great to hear from you and glad you see the light at the end of the tunnel (and this time it's not the train!)

You know the story about the poor dog that had his tail slammed in the car door, blind in one eye, can't see out of the other, missing his back left leg, broke the back right leg, has a cut left front leg, missing one ear.......goes by the name of "Lucky".
Whew!!! Thank goodness you have a bouncing baby boy!!! congrats on that!

I can't even imagine what you went through. Glad you are now in your home.

Book a cruise??? Strange advice. Exactly what you need with 2 young ones including a new born. Plus trying to get your business items straightened up.
