The O'Conner family, the folks who run Jessie James Cruises in Bermuda, responded today to my inquiries regarding conditions in Bermuda. As they make much of their revenue off the cruise industry, and live in Bermuda, they are pretty plugged in to what is going on down there.
I am told that repairs have been and are being made at a rapid pace to both the pier areas and more importantly to the markers to the channels leading into the harbors.
They expect cruise ships starting Sept 15 . I guess that means this weekends cruises
may be going to Bermuda.
Jill O'Conner described to me how her son and neighbors went out and cleared the
damaged trees blocking roads in and out of their neighborhood to allow vehicle access. I guess folks in Bermuda don't wait for other people to do things for them.
Their bigger boat sustained some damage but will be repaired by next week and the smaller boat is safe ,out of the water, but with more serious damage to other private
and commercial boats, may take a week or so to get back in the water.
Much of the lush greenery has been seriously damaged and things will certainly not be normal if you go to Bermuda, but , the great spirit of these folks will be their waiting for you.
