Old oversize jeans and a checked long sleeve shirt. Floppy hat and some straw. Just stuff the straw in the pockets, into the shirt and under the hat. I went as the scarecrow once to a party and won 1 st prize. I used spirit gum to glue fabric to my face, but you could just use makeup for the face if you did not want to go to all the trouble. Use rope for a belt. Have fun !! ;-)
I think the pirate/gypsy theme is going to be big this year. For the ladies, all you need is a pheasant blouse, worn off the shoulder of course; a skirt, short or long billowing; a long colorful scarf for a belt; and lots of chains and beads. You don't necessarily have to wear anything on your head, perhaps a scarf (?). I'm still working on the guys half of this.
Hope this helps.
My "I Don't Do Costumes" T-shirt will be with me on the Maasdam on Halloween. Think it came from a Lillian Vernon catalog about 10 years ago. Try Lillian Vernon online or any of those annoying little catalogs and you might find something like it.
I am also "craft-challenged" and this T-shirt is fine with black pants.
My favourite costume I wear at daycare every year is a "cat suit", basically black pants and a long black shirt with a tail attached. Top it off with white gloves and one of those tall red and white striped hats you can find in the $ store, and voila - you have The Cat in The Hat!
I want to wear a black fitted satin dress with long black gloves and pearl necklace, maybe even big round sunglasses, and carry around a stuffed cat, so I can be Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's! Or i was thinking of I love Lucy or Marilyn Monroe in Diamonds are a girls best friend; but I dont think i can bare another year of people not knowing who I'm supposed to be.
