Help, what do I need to pack for an Alaskan cruise?? I have only been on 2 cruises and they were both to the Caribbean. Dont think I will need sunscreen...hha..
Hey, You need sunscreen if you go on a glacier tour, snow reflects the suns rays and I have gotten some nasty burns skiing!
A good light weight jacket that is waterproof, and a fleece pull over are a good idea, you can layer it with the jacket or if it's dry just wear it. I'd remeber the swimsuit for the hot tubs, and formal night is still formal! Some slacks for the ladies( even if your not a slack fan) and a sweater, and do pack one pair of shorts, you may hit a sunny day. When are you going, July and August it can have some warm( not hot ) weather 70 -75, sept to october it can cool down quite a bit.
Number one thing to bring is BINOCULARS, there is so much to see on shore, you will never regret bringing them!
We were also glad to have gloves and scarf when walking outside on board. It can get pretty chilly even in August when you are cruising thru the glacier areas.
It gets very cool and damp in Alaska, so don't forget rain gear. Also it is best to layer clothing. We were there the last of August last year and we always had to wear jackets. It rains a lot there too, so be prepared.
The hot tub feels great after being on a tour. The glaciers are just beautiful!!!
It is a wonderful, amazing cruise so enjoy. Lou
We packed for all seasons of weather-layers and layers. HAH! It was warm and sunny every day except Sitka--warm and cloudy with sprinkles. Hardly needed sweatshirts and never even used the jackets. Never used the sunscreen, but didn't ski or walk on glacier. Didn't bring or need gloves. BUT all the locals raved about the record temps, so this may have been rare. Somehow we lucked out with the weather, although friends who went in June said the same thing.
Someone on a similar thread said to put back 1/2 of what you've just packed and you'll be OK. Words to live by. Happy cruising. You will love Alaska.
