Default Landsickness

Hi all -

Well, little by little I'm recovering from the rocking. I wonder how a 4-day cruise can result in more than a weeks' worth of continuing motion? Most of the time I feel ok but there are times I feel like I'm going to roll out of my chair.

Anyway, I'd still like to try another cruise but due to other projects, like putting in a lawn, it may wait a year.

Now, how do I post a photo or two...or even a gallery full?

Suzi

Suzi ...

This may sound REALLY stupid, but have you considered (a) an antihistimine and (b) a good ear wash?

Land vertigo is about the middle ear. A dirty "outer ear" can put pressure on.

AND have you seen your doc? A week is a REALLY long time.

Pamda -

thanks, yes, I have thought about the Dr. I told myself that if there wasn't any improvement over the weekend, tomorrow (Monday), I would call the Dr. I figure it has something to do with the inner ear. Over the last several months I have been experiencing the vertigo (makes going down the stairs at work very uncomfortable). But oddly, after years and years of severe motion, mainly car, sickness, I can ride a bus over winding mountain roads to work everyday with very little ill effects (except now it increased the rocking feeling). The couple of times I've gone deep sea fishing I've managed to maintain while everyone else was sick. I think part of that was due to stubborness - I was the only female and I wasn't going to give in!

I looked this up on the internet (Mal de Debarquement, I think) and was unhappy to find that it can last for months. And that one often prescribed medication is valium. That stuff knocks me out...as does the dramamine. I hadn't thought about an antihistimine.

But as I said, it's getting better. So as long as it continues to improve I don't think I'll bother the Dr with it. I'm just really surprised about it.

thanks, all, for the advice. I'll keep you posted.

Hi Suzi,

One of the things I found that helps with Landsickness (I get it too) is to just sort of rock back and forth a bit (even when sitting). Looks a little strange but if it works .

I am still rocking from my 9/28/03 cruise. I had the same experience (landsickness) in 2001 after a cruise and I know that it will subside in about 2 weeks :-)

Hi Sailin Buddy -

Well, you're right. It's completely gone now. Of course, it's been about 3 weeks but it was totally gone last week. I guess this means I can now look into another cruise. I just wonder if a 7-day cruise will give me a month of rocking??

thanks, all, for the suggestions and moral support.

I Shall Cruise Again!

Suzi
