This is something I've NEVER done, but Gary and Jackie go out every year and do their shopping together. I saw an ad that one of the stores will open at 5:30 a.m. If I do go out this year, it will be very, very early to try to avoid the crowds. Theses days there are sales all the time, so if I don't make it out Friday, I'm sure I won't miss out. So how about you?

I normally don't shop the day after Thanksgiving; however, I did last year and was able to save big $$$ with the sales. This year will probably miss them as we will be traveling to FL for a cruise. Besides, I've got all my shopping done. yeah!!
I used to love to get up early and go shopping before the crowds were too heavy. Haven't done it the last few years. My shopping these days consists of lots of gift cards. I really am gift challenged, and so I take the easy way out and let folks do their own shopping.
I try to keep my ears open to wish lists, and then I enjoy going and getting the actual gift and wrapping it up for a surprise. I wonder how cruises would go over? :-)
When we were younger and the "kids" were kids, we did, but now like Phyll, we send mostly gift cards. We did send a package to our grand daughter last week, and it cost so much to ship now, from now on unless we can see them in person it will be cash or gift cards, depending on what they want.
I usually avoid it like the plague but might get roped into it this year since my sister in law will be here from Los Angeles and has mentioned she'd like to go.....

This year I most likely will shop, at least breifly and in the AM, since I have the day off, its a zoo out there, but a sure way to get into the Christmas spirit, I think I'm nuts, but oh well :-)
I also avoid shopping the day after Thanksgiving like the plague. My DH worked at Target and watched grown adults literaly run each other down with shopping carts when the doors opened to get those "great deals." I don't think it is worth the headaches it causes to save maybe $20 total on gifts. My sanity is worth more then that.
Unless I know of a specific gift someone wants they usually end up with a gift card for a store or restaurant they enjoy. I guess that will have to change once our baby comes. He or she probably won't want to open up a gift card.
Hi All,
Lisa K I too worked retail and used to dread Fri as it was 14-16 hiur day as we opened at 7am and closed at 10. That was the start of the marathon to Christmas. I do not shop on that Fri. We are heading to DH's Nana in central Fl.

On year hubby & I actually went thru all of the sales papers on Thanksgiving and were at the malls by 5:30a the next day, we got SUCH a good deal on everything, and were so organized, we were actually finished by 10a! It was a madhouse, but the stores have everything so well set up, we were able to find what we want and get in and out...it was great!
Working this year, so probably won't do as much, although some stores do open at 5:30a again! (EVIL GRIN)

The year we moved to Florida I told my husband I would quit the day after Thanksgiving sales ....WE did for 2 years. This year we are stuck at home and just yesterday I saw something for my kids that I know is a great price and deal...so here we go this friday morning around 5am. My mother-in-law will be here so she can stay at the house with the kids and off course the turkey in the oven since we have Thanksgiving 2 on friday with her and a whole bunch of friends.

For years I worked in retail and had to be in work before 6 am for the big sale. Now I have an office job, and usually end up working anyway. Sometimes, I cut up stuff from the adds and talk my hubby into going shopping for me. Not this year though, we're done except for stocking stuffers.
