Default POLL: Do you cruise for special occasions?

Do you time your cruises to coincide with special occassions in your life or that of a family member, like birthdays, holidays, or anniversaries?

We haven't timed our cruises to coincide with any events before, but we would like to start taking anniversary cruises every year (starting next year, of course.)

Cheers,
Michelle B.

Our first cruise was for our anniversary. (Elation).
The second cruise my sisters and I took our Mother on a cruise for Mother's Day. (also the Elation).
Our next cruise was a family get together before our youngest daughter graduated from college and commissioned into the Air Force. (Star Princess).
The cruise we have coming up, is also for an anniversary. (15 days on the Regal Princess).

No special for us. We cruise every chance we get. Sometimes we have a birthday, sometimes we have Anniversaries while on board the ships.

My first cruise was for my 40th birthday. It took me that long to convince Gary to go. I had a really bad year that entire year...lots of stress, lost a very dear friend and turned 40. He finally had to give in. Since that time, we cruised for Thanksgiving and New Years also. Any excuse to cruise!

I think I'm with Mike. Cruising for any reason at all is great. We said the first cruise was for our 30th anniversary, but it really just took us that long to think we could afford such a luxury. The anniversary just made it a good excuse.

Our first cruise was a treat from my parents to celebrate their 50th anniversary. They felt that they would feel the loss of my brother (he died 6 years before) less on a cruise than at a big party.

This summer, we went on a Scandinavian/Baltic cruise with them (Dutch treat this time) to celebrate my mother's 80th and my father's 85th birthdays.

We 've taken two other cruises for no reason other than to have fun.

Michelle:

One thing I meant to add. 'Tis far better to have more anniversaries than honeymoons. MANY MANY more!

We often cruise at Thanksgiving, Christmas/Hahhukah, and Easter. We have also cruised on July fourth. Never on birthdays. We're going to Prague for our 20th anniversary but that's a land cruise.

My first was in Jan. no celebration except tor "try out"! My 2nd, was our honeymoon - a very good choice! Then the next 2 were just because we are now cruise-a-holics!! (although last year's coincided with New Years, and was the best ever time I had at New Years).

Definately for special occaisions.
Have done anniversary cruise for our 10th and last year did a birthday cruise to celebrate a 4th, 40th, and 80th birthday. THis June we will celebrate a 10th B-Day and Mom's B-day. Kids think thats the best way to have a B-day party. It actually cost less for the kids then taking a bunch of them to Chuckie Cheese. One friend and I compared costs, Taking 10 kids to C-C's, cake etc and tokens runs about 250-300 $ Cruise for 1 week runs about the same for kids and the memories last a lifetime.

Our first cruise happened to fall during our anniversary. It was not planned as an anniversary cruise. It was a total eclipse cruise that happened to fall during our anniversary.

We did purposely cruise for our 25th wedding anniversary. Actually we took a month off and did a train trip as well as back to back Alaska cruise.

This past January we cruised for my wifes 50th birthday.

All our other cruises were just because we wanted to cruise .

Hey Kathy & Dave we like that re: the cruise is the special occasion. Our daughter just got married in Oct & we have planned this trip for a long time. After the bills were coming in for the wedding ($$$) we wondered how to justify the $ for the cruise then it occurred to us-how could we NOT spend the money & the time on ourselves for a change! We are born,we work,we eat,we die-might as well cruise, cruise & cruise some more inbetween all of that other stuff!

Our first cruise was to celebrate our 35th anniv. Now we are hooked. So every winter we will take an anniv. cruise to somewhere warm and this summer we went to Alaska--no sepcial occasion. I'm subtly working on Hubby to add a summer cruise every year.

We cruise for our wedding anniversary. It's a perfect way to celebrate. It also gives us an opportunity to escape the cold winter weather.
