My first cruise was for my 40th birthday. It took me that long to convince Gary to go. I had a really bad year that entire year...lots of stress, lost a very dear friend and turned 40. He finally had to give in. Since that time, we cruised for Thanksgiving and New Years also. Any excuse to cruise!

I think I'm with Mike. Cruising for any reason at all is great. We said the first cruise was for our 30th anniversary, but it really just took us that long to think we could afford such a luxury. The anniversary just made it a good excuse.
My first was in Jan. no celebration except tor "try out"! My 2nd, was our honeymoon - a very good choice! Then the next 2 were just because we are now cruise-a-holics!! (although last year's coincided with New Years, and was the best ever time I had at New Years).
Definately for special occaisions.
Have done anniversary cruise for our 10th and last year did a birthday cruise to celebrate a 4th, 40th, and 80th birthday. THis June we will celebrate a 10th B-Day and Mom's B-day. Kids think thats the best way to have a B-day party. It actually cost less for the kids then taking a bunch of them to Chuckie Cheese. One friend and I compared costs, Taking 10 kids to C-C's, cake etc and tokens runs about 250-300 $ Cruise for 1 week runs about the same for kids and the memories last a lifetime.
Hey Kathy & Dave we like that re: the cruise is the special occasion. Our daughter just got married in Oct & we have planned this trip for a long time. After the bills were coming in for the wedding ($$$) we wondered how to justify the $ for the cruise then it occurred to us-how could we NOT spend the money & the time on ourselves for a change! We are born,we work,we eat,we die-might as well cruise, cruise & cruise some more inbetween all of that other stuff!
Our first cruise was to celebrate our 35th anniv. Now we are hooked. So every winter we will take an anniv. cruise to somewhere warm and this summer we went to Alaska--no sepcial occasion. I'm subtly working on Hubby to add a summer cruise every year.
