Ball dropping

Sorry guys but can you help out an ignorant Brit? Some of you have talked about watching the 'ball dropping'. What ball and where? sounds a bit like us watching Big Ben strike midnight.

Times Square, NYC has a big golden ball that is dropped at midnight. Everyone comes to party and watch.

Pretty much the same as Big Ben Teresa! The other tradition that goes along with the "ball dropping" in Times Square in N.Y. is watching it on TV hosted by Dick Clark, an ageless icon who used to host "American Bandstand".

Spent New years in Lebanon PA one year with family, they are famous for their bologna. They have a bologna (baloney) drop!!

In Port Clinton, along Ohio's lake Erie coast, they drop a fake 600lb walleye (a large freshwater game fish). The pursuit of the fish forms the core of the area's popularity as a tourist destination. Proceeds from summer charters keep the inhabitants from starving and freezing through winter.
