Linda,
Yes, I have cruised from Norfolk. It wasn't a mega ship so there were no long lines.
The terminal, such as it is , is called Nauticus. Although small they seem to have everything together and are working through trial and error on the small glitches. If you are driving from a distance you may want to come a day early and stay at the Sheraton on the harbor.
Any other questions, please feel free to e-mail me.

I am staying a night in Virgina Beach before our cruise. Its my first cruise from Norfolk but I took one from Philly which is not a big cruise city and it all worked out fine. Getting on and off was just a little bit slow. It was much quicker in Miami, they have it down to a science there.

Linda,
Marriott is fine...You should be close either way. The Sheraton is on the water and a short distance from Nauticus and the rates are probably a little more.
Have a great cruise! When are you leaving and what ship?

I live in Virginia Beach, and have sailed on the Carnival Victory out of Norfolk last October. The water is a liite rough till you get out of the bay, but once you hit the Ocean, it's great! Naticus is nice to board at, and Waterside (a mall area nearby) has shops and resturants. You will love it. If you need any more info, maps, ect... email me at mbradley@nlg.com
