Default Kilt for formal night?

I know I asked this before, but just wondering, what do you think of men in Kilts for formal night?

I'm not scottish, so haven't worn a kilt... though I think they're kind of cool.

I have been asked to leave the dining room when wearing a quilt.

My step-daughter's husband married her in one, so if it's good enough for a wedding, why not for formal night? (BTW, the minister wore a kilt too!)

I think if you are of Scottish heritage and the ensemble has some meaning for you, I'm all for it. If, however, it's more of a "costume" thing and might offend someone, I wouldn't do it.

I think kilts are great looking and certainly think they are formal enough for any occasion.

You will see Kilts on just about all formal nights. It is perfectly acceptable formalwear but it should only be worn by someone who is Scottish or of Scottish decent and only the proper tartan for the family worn. FYI, a formal Kilt is very expensive, and I do mean VERY expensive. Like in the thousands of dollars.

On the cruise we just returned from - we hooked up with a couple from Scotland. Actually - had talked to them on internet & that is how we found them as Ian was going to be wearing a kilt the nite of the captains dinner!! It was very appropriate as he was in full dress (so to speak!)
