Have any of you watched the new show, called Airport on A&E? Its a fascinating reallity show about what goes on at airports..Southwest is the carrier they follow. So far, they have dealt with a smelly customer, that they refused boarding...A family who did not have a birth certificate to prove that their child was under 2, [ so he could fly free] they screamed and yelled, finally paying the $270.00, and hoping to get a refund when they could produce it at home.Oh, and missing the plane....Drunken and rude customers ,oh boy!!..There are 2 episodes on tonight at 10 and 10:30 tonight..est... Watch it and see where your sympathies are..The customer or the crew...

I don't think Southwest was rude, I think the customers were rude. The SW employees stood their (the company's) ground. I guarantee you that if the customers had shown the employees a little respect (not yelling, not talking down to them) the customers would have gotten what they wanted. The family with the 2 year old comes to mind. The husband and wife didn't let the supervisor get a word in edgewise. Once the supervisor told them the situation, they hit the roof and started screaming. If they had remained calm, I can almost guarantee you that she would have let the family on the plaine without paying for the baby.
Yes, I speak from experience. I have worked with customers (retail management) for over 15 years. If customers are nice, I will work my tail off to get them anything they ask for (usually dealing with credit card issues. I've even given merchandise away.) If they come in my office screaming and telling me what I'm going to do, I do the minimum. Plain and simple.
Watched and loved the shows. Nothing like real life... but...I'm wondering if SW employees have been instructed to mind their ps&qs on camera. I wonder if all situations are handled with the finesse we see on t.v. What happens when the cameras are NOT rolling ???? We've traveled on SW a few times and had no problems. but....just an intemperate thought. ;-)
