Default No more smoke-free Paradise

Maybe I am slow, but I just read that starting September the Carnival Paradise will no longer be a smoke-free ship. I understand Carnival's reasoning for this (no big group bookings), but I'm still disappointed as I really liked the concept and was hoping to try the smoke-free format someday.

Cheers,
Michelle P.

I debated for awhile whether to sail the Paradise before she leaves and becomes smoking, but the timing isn't right and we've decided we'll just have to miss her!

There was a long thread on either this or the gripes board, Michelle about the Paradise and this news.

It was discussed at length on these boards while you were off creating your own smoke, honeymooning that is. The Paradise is repositioning to L.A. to do the short Mexican trips.

I'm sure it was a matter of money, but I think if they had alternated it's trips it might have done better, financially. I mean if you want to go on a non-smoking ship the Paradise was the only ballgame in town, but how many trips do you take on this ship before the itinerary gets old and you move on to another?

Regards,
Thomas

Okay, I am slow then.

Good point, Thomas, switching itineraries would surely have helped.

With the current glut of cruise ships, you'd think that the lines could furnish more smoke-free ships.

As you can see by my cruise history below, the Paradise *did* change her itineraries, enough for us to check her out each time we were planning on cruising.

Yes, "unfortunate" that non-smokers don't drink and gamble as much as smokers, oh well! So much for that lifestyle

If I remember correctly, the Paradise entered service in December 1998. We first sailed her in April 1999 (E. Carib.) and again in April 2001 (W. Carib.). We had hoped to do another cruise this year, but then decided to do the Baltic itinerary instead. It looks like this will be the end of smoke-free cruising, at least for the foreseeable future. Too bad! It was a real treat for us non-smokers, especially in the casino.
