If it can't be the Dolphins then I am an underdog fan myself!! go Panthers!! We are ready for Super bowl Sunday. Just did the grocery shopping this morning. don't want to forget anything! We used to hold a party, but then we were so busy entertaining missed half the game. Now we close the blinds don't answer the phone, well you get the idea!
Good gosh can I relate to that jeanne&ellis. I held famous Super Bowl Parties for years when I was younger but never got to watch the game because you are always getting more dip, stirring the chili, moving more beverages to the fridge, taking out the garbage, emptying ash trays, well.............you know. You do get smarter as you age, don't ya'?
It's true that the Panthers are an expansion team...but then, who isn't? I believe that only three of the original NFL teams are still around (Green Bay, Chicago & ?Arizona?)
That's right! The Arizona Cardinals are the oldest team in the NFL, i.e. oldest continuous organization. From 1920 to 1960 they were the Chicago Cardinals; from 1960 to 1988 they were the St. Louis Cardinals; and they've been the Arizona Cardinals ever since.
The oldest expansion team? Believe it or not, it was the New York Giants (1925). And how about the Redskins? They joined the NFL in 1932 as the Boston Braves, subsequently the Boston Redskins and ultimately the Washington Redskins. The Pittsburgh franchise joined the league in 1933 as the Pirates, later changing their name to the Steelers.
And don't forget Dallas (1960), Minnesota (1961), Miami & Atlanta (1966) and Cincinnati (1968), all of which joined the NFL before it merged with the AFL in 1970. In a manner of speaking, all of the teams except the Cardinals, Bears and Packers could be called "expansion" teams. And more than a few of them have never won a Super Bowl.
So don't feel sorry for the Panthers, which joined the NFL in 1995 (the same year as the Jaguars). If any team deserves our sympathy, it's the Buffalo Bills (the only team to have appeared in 4 consecutive Super Bowls without a win). As for me, I think that the Patriots will win Super Bowl XXXVIII. Thomas, I'll give you the Panthers and 6½! <S>
I don't have any favorite NFL team right now but will be cheering for the Patriots. Qback coach John Hufnagel played & coached many years in Canada including several highly successful years as offensive co-ordinator of the Calgary Stampeders.
Our big party day is the Canadian equivalent - Grey Cup game. Our group of friends have got together on that day for over 30 years. It is held in late November. We used to gather for Super Bowl, (any excuse for a party) also, but as we get older we have drifted away from it. Oh well, I may have to hoist a brew to the winner by myself although Jo, who does not care that much for football, will no doubt join me ( like I said, any excuse for a party!)
Gotta to love our New England Team - I'll be rooting for the Pats!!!! My son, dares to root for which ever team isn't the Pats - he's a Dolphin Fan, and has had a very depressing season watching football with his mom...I'm hoping the streak won't end. Spent Monday & Tuesday in Boston...felt the fever.
Thanks Jack for reminding me. I've been a season ticket holder for the Bills games for about 20 years now. Now, sitting in the stadium with the snow falling in my beer, watching the Bills play is one of the true pleasures in life.
Oh, by the way, I think you got your felines nicknames mixed up. Maybe it's all the excitement!
Oops!! Ya got me, Eddie. I don't know why I thought of the Cougars (there was a Carolina Cougars team in the old ABA years ago). Sorry, Panthers fans everywhere, for the slip. It's P A N T H E R S !! Go Pats!<S>
Pats! Real men, playing football the way it's SUPPOSED to be played - OUTSIDE!!
Superbowl Sunday is a big deal in our house. We plan the junk food menu for days (hot dogs, nachos, ice cream floats and, of course, BEER!).

Well, Jack, I found a couple of suckers last night who wanted the Panthers and 3-1/2 pts. With the spread being 7 I couldn't pass that up so I put my money on the Pats. Now if I can find someone to even out those two bets by giving me the Panthers and 7 I'd take that.
In any case, I'm going to lock the doors, turn off the lights, turn off the phones, break out the food, and watch the game by myself.
