How have you all been? Well i was wondering if anyone has seen the movie "Out To Sea" It is a great movie and very funny too? I would like to know what people think of it. And the ship they cruise on is called the Ms Westerdam has anyone been on it? And if so is it as nice as it looks in the movie? Thanks for your input
Is that the movie with Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau posing as dance hosts?
If it is, I liked it alot. If you want another funny cruise movie, stupid, but funny, rent "Boat Trip" with Cuba Gooding Jr. Very entertaining. At the moment, we are searching for a movie called "Cabin Boy" starring Chris Elliot (Robert's brother-in-law on Everybody Loves Raymond). It's about a guy who gets a job on a cruise liner as a cabin boy, and is supposed to be funny, but so far we haven't been able to find it.

When I sailed on the Statendam a few years ago we were told that the movie had been filmed the previous year using the Westerdam for exterior and deck shots. I think all the interiors were recorded on a sound stage. It was appropriate that we were able to watch the movie on a cruise that was arranged to observe another eclipse in the Carribean near Curacao. As I recall, the movie bombed at the box office and critics weren't kind to it either.
I remember how the audience on the Statendam groaned in disappointment when they gave us only a brief glimpse of totality, using it as a minor plot element to add humor to a marriage proposal, I believe. It was depicted as something of only passing interest, when I can tell you as a veteran of six eclipse cruises, it would be the focus of all attention before the event and the subject of all conversation for days after. Here's a slideshow I put together from pictures taken on board the Statendam during the '98 eclipse.
