Yes, it's good! In fact, I was just wishing idly for some this morning! It's from the guavaberry fruit...which is not associated with the guava. It's delicious! Be sure to try the guavaberry colada...I liked it even better than my favorite, the pina colada.
As I type this I am looking at a bottle of guavaberry liqueur on my desk. It is very good and as someone said pretty potent. It is 35% alcohol, making it 70 proof.
The original building where it got started is located in Phillipsburg, St. Maarten at no.'s 8-10 Front street. There are other liqour stores around that sell it but go to the original place. You can buy in differing sizes and plain or decorator bottles.
Their website is---www.guavaberry.com
There is another liqueur made there that you may want to try. It's called "Rum Jumbie "
and has a bottle molded like a man playing a conga drum. It can also be bought in plain amber or painted bottles. When I was there a couple of months ago there was a stand near the ship selling the rum jumbie but there is also a large liqueur store near the dock that sells it. Give it a try. I'm sure you will like it. It too is potent, being 30 % alcohol or 60 proof.
I take a little nip from mine now and then, trying to make them last.
You can get a taste of all of the flavors - watch out for the Love Potion #9 - that one goes down way too smooth. They make a guavaberry colada that is great, especially when it is hot & humid. We brought back several bottles of different flavors of the rum liquor plus some of the guavaberry.
