Citizen Police Academy

Well, because I've been in such a funk, working and not doing much else, a friend talked me into enrolling in this class with her. I ran into her at a wake for a coffee shop owner here in town, seems like this winter it's been hospital visiting, wakes/funerals for me. :-(

She told me I need to get out of the house, besides working so I enrolled. It is for
10 weeks, 3 hrs. a week and goal is to create awareness for the police and what their total role in the community is. The only part I'm not keen on is the firing range but I'll deal with that when we get to that part. Actually I can shoot a gun/rifle but do not like them very much.

Doesn't start until March 11th, but I'll report back and let you know what it is all about!

Good to have you back posting Susie. Don't like guns either so this wouldn't be for me. But it will help to pass the time away till your next cruise. Just wish you were cruising with us.

SUsan! WOnderful! You will learn so much and even though it might taint you in some of your views from now own about people in general, you will learn so much and become so much more aware of what really goes on in this world. I was asked to help get one started here in St Augustine and wrote much of the curriculium but due to budget cuts it fell by the wayside. I understand that the course in much of it's original form went to Jacksonville and is being done up there.

Re: Citizen Police Academy

Thanks for all the encouragement! My friend attended one already that one of the towns held, liked it so much, she decided to enroll in the county one.

The county one interests me because I see the Lake County cars around but do not know much about the area they cover, responsibilities, etc. so it will definitely be a learning experience.

My brother-in-laws father was a police chief and his brother an officer, then detective so I may have had a little more contact than some folks.

All in all I am really looking forward to it.

Susie
