YES, you MUST have a passport to go to Barbados, whether by sea or air.

I just read you don't need one if you a cruise passenger just visiting , but if you leave the ship in Barbadoes to stay , you do..

No, you just need your ships card. Don't ever forget to take that with you. If you're starting or ending in Barbados, say for an extended stay before or after your cruise, you would need a passport, but not if you're on a ships excursion. I just read on another cruise website where they have just changed their policy on this. I'm planning a trip there on a cruise ship and I'm getting a passport finally, just because we take a lot of cruises and they're a much easier form of identification than all of the papers I carry with me now. I've been meaning to get a passport for a long time and now this year we're finally getting one. If I were you, I would also check with your TA. They're suppose to have the latest information on this; although my TA, I was the one to tell her what was going on with Barbados and the passport changes.
Happy Cruising......Anita

As far as I can tell, you will need passports for visiting Barbados by cruiseship, next I'm hearing Aruba too.

Best bet, get the passport, then no worries.
