Default Survey, Cruise Ship Profits

Which activities, do you think, provide the cruise lines with the most profit; alcohol sales, the casino, photography, tours, bingo, the spa, shops on the ship, art auctions, speciality resturants, speciality coffee and pastry sales, cruise line booked hotels and kickbacks from shops in port?

I believe the first five, by themselves, more than pay for the total operations of the ship
including salaries, food and fuel.

I would definitely say alcohol and the casino.

While you've certainly named areas that generate alot of the cruise lines revenue, I doubt very much that this revenue alone covers the entire cost of operating the ship.

If that were true, the "left over profit" from other onboard revenue sources, and the passenger fares would be likely equal an operating profit for a cruise line with say 10 ships of in the neighborhood of 750,000,000 dollars a year.

They may be doing OK, but I don't think they're doing that well <G>

I agree. A lot of the revenue has to go to paying off the cost of the ships as well as the advertising, land based operations etc.

Paul ...

I researched this for an article once, and I think the answer for the Carnivore cartel was the casino.
