What can I say about Inspiration, the ship from whom we are recently parted? Her main overiding charm was that she was exactly like my first cruise ship down to locational details of my favorite shipboard places. And Inspiration delivered a wonderful cruise, remarkable service, and comfortable accommodations. I have 0 complaints, despite the late arrival of the ship for our boarding and the resulting chaos of her tardiness.
But while aboard, I felt something missing the 7 days of the cruise. It was a feeling akin to homesickness, but not for the land, not for a house. And though Inspiration provided an excellent cruise, with remarkable service, and comfortbale accommodations, I missed a cherished soul--the soul of another ship.
In addition, once on shore again, the absence of an upcoming cruise for the first time in 2 years has been a palpable condition for Chris and me. So we have decided to return "home."
On April 4, 2005, we are reserved, confirmed, and booked to be on deck and in awe as we sail down the Mighty Mississippi aboard SENSATION OUT OF NEW ORLEANS!
Now how do I setup that countdown?
I may dwell on the land, but I live at sea!

Sensation 2/03 I disembarked, but never really left the ship.
Enchantment 9/03 Just had to go back.
Inspiration 3/04 Just have to go back again, and again, and again...
Sensation 04/05 The vessel made me do it!
...I'm just like a seagull
that's left the sea.
And your muddy waters
Have been calling me
I'm gonna pack my grip and head that way
You'll see me hangin' round with you some day
The only way I know to lose
The I ain't got a countdown blues
I've dreamed of riding on your bosom
Settin' out from New Orleans
Down upon your turbid waters
Sensation's gonna carry me.
I can't wait to hear my lady
Tellin' the pilot boat
That her lines are cleared and ready
To take us out of port.

Well, I did love that ship. And I can't think of better way to see the Mississippi River for the first time than from the deck of my first cruise ship, especially considering how expensive one way cruises are aboard the river boats. It's more than a natural fit! Chris and I are hyper-excited about this one!
[Note: I'm so excited i can barley type!]

CONGRATULATIONS STEVE! I'm glad you've booked. I can't wait to read about your return to the Sensation because I'm sure it will make a wonderful story. (Yes, it's all about ME! <G>)
Thanks for the link Michelle. I gotta countdown again! And oh how sweet it feels!
And thanks for the congrats, Kuki.

I really, really want to sail out of New Orleans one day. It can happen - I'm 8 hours from Florida port - 8 hours from New Orleans.

Way to go Steve!!! I'm anxious to sail on the Holiday Oct. 4th out of New Orleans. Haven't booked it yet because I'm waiting until the discounting begins in, oh..........about August. We'll take a couple of days before to sample some of the French Quarter. I was there last week and had a great room at the Homewood Suites which I'll never remember after the 3 for 1 bottles of beer all night.
The first Carnival ship, Mardi Gras, is no longer around. She finished out her days as Apollon, running 3 and 4 day cruises out of Piraeus, near Athens. Last year, she was sold for scrap. A 42 year service life is quite respectable for the ship who started it all.
